Professional Outdoor Media Association Launches Outreach Program
Johnstown, PA - -(TheOutdoorWire.com)- The Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) launched a new program focused on a special segment of the outdoor industry.
POMA’s Women’s Outreach Committee’s (WOC) mission is to approach female communicators within the outdoor industry to promote the benefits of POMA membership and increase the number of gals already working established as communicators, students and associate members in the organization.
The WOC also mentors up-and-coming and assists veteran communicators to shape personal growth, sharpen business acumen in order to succeed or grow their communications business and foster a supportive networking environment.
Committee Chair Michelle Scheuermann, with The Sportsman Channel, says she’s proud and excited about this new opportunity for POMA and for female communicators.
“I wish I had access to a program like this when I entered the industry,” Scheuermann said. “I would have enjoyed meeting and learning from other gals. Many of my peers also have voiced the same sentiment. So, WOC will focus on extending a hand to women, welcoming them into the outdoor industry, offering guidance and encouraging young women to consider careers within our industry.”
One of the initial efforts of WOC is connecting with established women’s outreach programs, such as the National Rifle Association’s Women’s Programs, Becoming an Outdoors Woman and the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Women in the Outdoors.
“Many of these organizations work with communicators who are not yet POMA members,” Scheuermann added. “By working with these groups, WOC can provide mutual benefit to the outreach organizations and the women who communicate their messages.”
WOC also will seek opportunities to connect with female communicators at major industry shows and will work with POMA to assist with student recruitment and mentoring programs.
- Are you a gal who’s seeking guidance, camaraderie or a mentor?
