Team Smith & Wesson Members Olhasso, Miculek and Buckland Win Division Titles.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  – Smith & Wesson Corp., announced today the successful completion of the 2nd Annual International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Indoor National Championships, held February 19-21 at the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center. Attracting competitors from across the globe and throughout the United States, this year’s championships showcased some of the biggest names in shooting sports with over 270 competitors in attendance.

As one of the premier IDPA events of the season, five national champions were crowned during the three-day event. Team Smith & Wesson dominated in the race for national titles with top performances by David Olhasso, Jerry Miculek and Craig Buckland. Competing in the Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP) Division, Smith & Wesson Team Member David Olhasso earned the division title using an M&P45 pistol. Olhasso’s final score of 179.88 bested the talented field in the CDP Master division, giving Olhasso back-to-back division titles and his second major win of the 2009 season. In the Enhanced Service Revolver (ESR) Division, Jerry Miculek once again stood in the winner’s circle with his Smith & Wesson Model 625. With a total score of 214.35, Miculek captured the ESR national championship title for an unprecedented eighth time. Fellow teammate Curt Nichols also had a strong showing in the ESR division, placing second overall and first place in Master Class. Rounding out the division titleholders for Smith & Wesson was Craig Buckland, who also served as Match Director for the event. Buckland, competing with a Smith & Wesson Pro Series Model 686 SSR in the Stock Service Revolver (SSR) Division, successfully defended his national title from the previous year, finishing with a total score of 236.60.

“The turnout at this year’s match was tremendous and we are very honored to have had the opportunity to host the IDPA Indoor Nationals for a second consecutive year,” said Tom Kelly, Vice President of Marketing for Smith & Wesson. “Our match directors and staff worked hard to design creative and challenging courses of fire that were well received by all of the competitors. Over 270 participants from five different countries and 26 states registered in this year’s event, which led to some fantastic finishes and intense but friendly competition.”

The 2009 Indoor National Championships featured 14 exciting courses of fire involving low-light and no-light conditions, moving targets and defensive shooting scenarios. In addition to the three-day event, competitors had the opportunity to participate in a variety of events including Smith & Wesson factory tours and training seminars.
