CUSTER STATE PARK, S.D. –-(AmmoLand.com)- This morning was a busy one in Custer State Park as park staff corralled 1,500 buffalo during the 44th annual roundup. Initial reports indicate that attendance was up significantly from last year.

“Custer State Park hosted 2,861 cars and 40 motor coaches for the Roundup this year,” said Craig Pugsley, Visitor Services Coordinator at Custer State Park. “That is up dramatically from 2,360 cars and 29 motor coaches in 2008.”

Guests arrived from 41 states, three Canadian provinces and many foreign countries. Journalists from across the globe covered the event for their readers and viewers back home.

“This has grown to be a great event and we’re happy we can share a little bit of the Old West with those who are here for a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” added Pugsley.

The annual roundup serves as a tool to help manage the park’s buffalo herd. Around 200 buffalo will be sold at the park’s annual auction on Saturday, Nov. 21. For additional information on the auction, contact the park by phone at (605) 255-4515 or by email at CusterStatePark@state.sd.us.

New Outdoor Industry Association & Piper Jaffray Survey Asks: How will 2009 be Remembered?
OIA is asking industry executives to take a brief updated survey.

Boulder, CO – Results from the recently released Outdoor Industry Association OIA® / Piper Jaffray Outdoor Industry Survey, completed in August, shows members increasingly cautious and realistic about the economic situation facing the industry. When asked to indicate the level of concern surrounding current economic conditions affecting their business, a majority indicated they are “very concerned,” up from just under half last spring and about one-third last fall. The highest levels of concern have shifted to retailers with 88 percent of them signaling they are very concerned. Just 44 percent of vendors have the same level of concern, signaling mismatched expectations.

OIA is asking industry executives to take a brief updated survey, which will allow Piper Jaffray to gather and aggregate this critical economic data to share with members. This information will provide real time data about how industry leaders view the macroeconomic environment and the overall health of the outdoor market.

The survey is available online between today and Friday, October 16, 2009. A report highlighting key takeaways will be posted on the OIA website in late October. This survey builds on initial results collected in late 2008 and spring 2009, both of which can be found at the research and resources section of the OIA website. To take the survey, go to http://www.piperjaffray.com/outdoorsurvey.

A copy of the August 2009 report, as well as all OIA research is available to OIA members at www.outdoorindustry.org/research.
