USA Gun Owners Buy 14 Million Plus Guns In 2009 – More Than 21 of the Worlds Standing Armies Combined

AmmoLand Gun News

Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for the year reported 14,033,824 NICS Checks for the year of 2009, a 10 percent increase in gun purchases from the 12,709,023 reported in 2008.

So far that is roughly 14,000,000+ guns bought last year!
The total is probably more as many NICS background checks cover the purchase of more than one gun at a time by individuals.

To put it in perspective that is more guns than the combined active armies of the top 21 countries in the world. countries by number of troops

Of the NICS background checks preformed less than and average .005% were denied, showing, overwhelmingly, that law abiding American citizens are the ones buying guns and that criminals are getting their guns elsewhere.

14,033,824,000 billions rounds of Ammo
Assuming each gun buyer bought 1000 rounds of ammo for each purchase, and you and I know that it is way, way more than that, that would be easily 14,033,824,000+ billions rounds of ammo fired by USA gun owners.

What percent of people were killed or injured by this ammo…it is just to infinitesimally small for me to calculate?

Crime At Record Lows
This record year in firearms background checks show that Americans are solidly in-favor of exercising their civil right to Keep and Bear Arms.

In a year were crime has reached an all time record low what is plainly clear is that more guns equal LESS CRIME!

    1. An armed citizenry, is a peaceful citizeny. Any Counrty wishing to “invade the USA” will have to consider not only how to get throught our armed forces but will also have to attack the people that gave rise to those armed forces, understanding that for more than 200 years our people have been using guns and are familiar with their effectiveness. What in illiterate, ill-informed and generally ignorant article! You say, “what is plainly clear is that more guns equal LESS CRIME!” What rubbish! That’s equivalent to saying that America’s rising obesity levels (yes, Yanks are getting fatter by the minute) is linked to rising gun sales. It doesn’t equate.

Then again, the mindless gun-loving masses in the U.S. probably skew statistics to justify their firearm fetish at every opportunity. An then there are twits like ‘Tex’ who like to ruminate on the likelihood of an invasion. What idiocy! I seriously doubt the U.S. government would consider 14 million more armed yahoos to be any sort of line of defense!

    6. Eastwood:;

Have you had your head buried in a hole. It is all over the news this month. Gun sales are at all time highs and crime is at an all time low. Google it buddy you can miss it!

Um, AmmoLand, I’ll use small words so you might be able to understand.

There is no correlation (sorry, ‘link’) between high gun sales and lowering crime rates. That’s just two unconnected statistics. Yes, gun masturbators like you may WANT there to be a connection.

You may pray every night to your Republican God that there is a connection, but there isn’t. There is no connection and never will be a connection between elevated gun sales and lower crime. The US has a violent crime and homicide rate many times higher than Canada, Europe, and most of developed Asia.

There IS a correlation (sorry again, ‘link’) between the violence of US society and its high gun sales. Americans need to stay in school, go to church less, read more, eat fewer calories, have their guns chopped up, and adopt more socially responsible policies (health care for the 50 million without, for example).

You on the other hand, just need to stop believing all the propaganda from the NRA and other self-serving organizations like that.

Eastwood-you say gun-owners are illiterate. Do you read statistics, or just mouth off opinions according to how you feel or view the subject? How about doing a little research, before you make claims of which you obviously know next to nothing about. It’s common sense to see the practicality behind a deterrent: for protecting your child from undesirables-a watch dog in your house, or back yard is more likely to ward off potential criminals than not! If someone is attempting to choke the life out of me and has a knife, should I respond with my fist or a bat? If they had a gun, what equal or greater force can I meet them with, if not a gun?? It’s too late to call 911; and even if the element of surprise didn’t happen, how long would it take for them to respond. It’s likely that by then, that sadly, your whole family would be compromised.

      List of 7 items:

      * Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.
      * Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent.
      * Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.”

      The Spirit of Resistance

“What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them.” — Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith, 1787. ME 6:373, Papers 12:356

“Governments, wherein the will of every one has a just influence… has its evils,… the principal of which is the turbulence to which it is subject. But weigh this against the oppressions of monarchy, and it becomes nothing. Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietam servitutem. [I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude.] Even this evil is productive of good. It prevents the degeneracy of government, and nourishes a general attention to the public affairs.” — Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787. ME 6:64
“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere.” — Thomas Jefferson to Abigail Adams, 1787

“I hold it that a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms are in the physical. Unsuccessful rebellions, indeed, generally establish the encroachments on the rights of the people, which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions, as not to discourage them too much. It is medicine necessary for the sound health of government.” — Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787. ME 6:65
“God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion; what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.” — Thomas Jefferson to William S. Smith regarding the Shays Rebellion, 1787. ME 6:372

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.” — Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith, November 13, 1787. ME 6:373, Papers 12:356

    15. Hey CUPanacea, did you know that 80% of statistics are made up on the spur of the moment?

Funny thing about gun freaks; just like religious zealots, they love to quote supposedly bright people to support their arguments. The problem is that they never take the context of the quote into account. If a high school principal talked about dealing with unruly parents by “fighting them on the beaches,” most people would laugh. Well, most of the quotes on this blog are just as farcical. And blithely equating crimes statistics to an absence of handguns under homeowners pillows is equally farcical. Yes, a zealot can make any comment support his argument. At the end of the day, he’s just a silly zealot. There are just as many – and probably many, many more – statistics and quotes to support the argument that firearms are the ’cause’ of high crime and violence. But gun lovers aren’t swayed by anything that puts their chosen fetish into a bad light, are they?

What I can never grasp is people who keep wanting to change America’s Constitution to their way of thinking or liking, or those that support this. To me they just need to find another Country to live in. Oh but wait they wont do that because to do so, they wouldn’t be able to enjoy the many other freedoms that us gun toting dummy’s stand up and protect every day just by having the freedom to own those guns they want to take away…..grrrrrrrrr….

The guns will be needed for guess who and certainly NOT for foreign invaders. We already have been invaded in our own living rooms by our propaganda pimps constantly spewing their lies on their version of news, they hope to fool the dumbed down duped. Is it working?

    20. Oh and by the way , THE AMMO STATEMENT/SHORTAGE I asked some teenagers who work for us and like to hunt with mom and dad “Is there a shortage of ammo?”They looked at me blankly and replied”dunno,we make our own”

Americans will not lay down their arms like their Canadian, Australian and British friends. 300 brave free souls stood off Xerxes’ hoard of thugs with their spears swords and shields. These Spartans put the fear of god in the Persians and a year later, though the 300 were murdered their fighting reputation remained, and the poor Persian thugs had to face the prospects of fighting 24,000 really pissed off Spartans. Alot of Persian blood soaked the beach that day and the Persians tried it again 20 years later and the Free Greek slaughter them again and the Persians never returned for another tromping.
Me thinks there is a lesson to be learned here. “Molen Labe” (Greek for: Come and take them) was the Spartan response when commanded to lay down their arms!
Molen Labe stands today! And, I like the English translation better which implies the possibility of victory where King Leonidas’ usage of Molen Labe translates: “Kill us first and then take our weapons!”
      Drones Hah! Molen Labe!!!

Again, I don’t wish to make people who hate firearms purchase one.

And, criminals break the law. notice how mass shooting always seem to happen in ‘gun free zones’? Why do you think that is?

its because law-abiding people obey, and criminals do not. There are too many firearms floating around this country for a gun ban to have any positive effect.

Ammoland is correct. I live in South Texas and as the economy goes further into the hole, my biggest worry has been that crime has always risen dramatically in hard times- esp since I am female. This time, it hasn’t and the fact that more people own guns has to be the cause. It certainly isn’t improved and/ or enhanced law enforcement. Murder is surprisingly low. We do have the occasional home invasion or car jacking here, though, and when the cops are too slow to respond- or don’t show up at all (and yeah, that HAS happened once), I am grateful to live in a country that doesn’t leave it’s citizens defenseless. Should that moment ever come for me, I CAN defend myself and my loved ones.

One was enough for me, now motion sensors a dog and you guessed it, a hand cannon that will take them down, and yes, I do know how to use it. An old adage; never pick a fight with an old man, he will just kill you. I agree. Guns bring back politeness and manners too, just notice how polite you get when a cop occasionally stops you. See it is guns, and their willingness to use them on you that gets that respect. No gun and you get tased, heart attack and an ambulance ride. This is going to get worse as the economy tanks. Watch the youngsters too, they have no limits on their excesses lately. Usually the most brutal among the cowards.

It was the American on the street that came to the rescue, that guy they now scorn who had an extra firearm tucked away. I recommend they go back and read their own history before running off at the mouth!!

John Lott, a researcher at the U of Chicago published a report upon researching 3700 counties in the US concerning presence of firearms in the home and crime rates. His unchallenged conclusion was that counties where firearms were kept in the home had dramatically lower crime rates than those counties with some form of gun control restrictions in effect.
Interviews with convicted felons disclosed that if a robber knew that a home owner might have a firearm, the perp would not try a forced entry.
Each year the NRA reports that armed home/store owners stop the
process of a robery/assault over 600,000 times. You have one cop for every 20-25 thousand residents in the US. The Police have no constitutional mandate to protect you. They enforce the law but
can not prevent crimes. You are obliged to defend yourself.

    39. To our dear British cousins who seem fit to call Americans fat and stupid, it appears to me that it is your ignorance or lack of historical memory that drives your opinions. The memory of the Act of Proscription, enacted on November 1, 1747, in order to subdue the highlands of Scotland is writ large in the American psyche. We Americans remember, we remember that a disarmed people is a conquered people. We put our memory down in writing, so we will always remember. We wrote it down, in every State constitution and in the Federal Constitution, the very simple principle that all free men have the God given right to bear arms. And yes, we Americans cling to God and our guns – though I, for one, am not bitter.

I have read that our Republic was brewed in Scotland, bottled in Ireland and victoriously uncorked in America. The Scottish Enlightenment is the root of all of our political forms. If you ever bothered to read the writings of Francis Hutcheson or George Buchannon then it would be ever apparent that America is the fruit of their philosophy which is firmly rooted in the foundation of the Christ. We are the heirs of the United Irishmen. We Americans did away with the Established Religion and the Test Act, that oppressed both Catholics and the members of the Kirk alike, think of Emmett, Wolfe Tone and Roddy McCorley. When our own Revolution seemed lost, stalemate in the North and utter defeat in the South, from the backwoods we Americans gathered. With our own firearms, we met the King’s best at Cowpens, at Kings Mountain, at Guilford and finally at Yorktown. We remember the words of those who would enslave us, those who called us “rednecks”, “crackers” and “wild Irish” that needed to be cleared from the land. We remember your ways and your words. I strongly disagree with the above statement. I doubt anyone buys 1000 rounds of ammo for any gun they own unless they shoot competively. The price of ammo the last couple of years has skyrocketed making any ammo other than 22lr extremely costly.
I reload and shoot weekly at a range and while I do currently have over 1000 rounds of 45acp I also have 9 weapons that use that calibre. I couldn’t imagine having 1000 rounds for my S&W 460 mag.

The right to own arms was not put into the constitution so the citizenry could protect itself from criminals but so they could protect themselves from government.

Reminds me of a joke I heard a while back about a liberal college student and her conservative father… it goes like this…

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself a very liberal Democrat and was very much in favor of redistribution of wealth. She was ashamed that her father was a staunch Republican.

Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes and the addition of more government welfare programs. He responded by asking her how she was doing in school. She answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, with no time to go out and party like other students.

She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend. Her father listened and then asked, “How is your friend Audrey doing? She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus and for her college is a blast. She’s always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.

Her wise father asked his daughter… “Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.”

The daughter was visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion and angrily fired back… “That wouldn’t be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree! She played while I worked my tail off!”

The father slowly smiled and said gently… “I agree with your conservative beliefs”

So odd that we keep talking about how guns make us free or protect our freedoms. As if the collected gun owners were doing anything to warrant such activity in the first place. A basic rule in logic is the difficulty in proving the null set, or, just because something hasn’t happened doesn’t mean whatever you’re doing has prevented it. Just because we haven’t yet had tanks on the streets daily, the “coming fascism” both those on the left and right fear, doesn’t mean our guns have stopped that. You can’t prove that. What you can prove is who gets hit by bullets. Tens of thousands, most of whom are known to the users. When some posters indicated that “violence is good,” there is something to consider here: no- I don’t think guns are the issue. The main concern is a well-armed population who believes might makes right, or sociopathy is somehow an American value. Sad.

Felons are not to have firearms, let alone be allowed to use them to commit robberies, home invasions, or to shoot the police, yet this is what they routinely do.
In 1987 the State of Florida enacted, “Shall Issue” legislation regarding the carry of firearms. If you were not a felon, and filled out your forms correctly, you were granted a carry license. Violent crime dropped by 30 %. 36 states now have this type of law. Violent crime always goes down afterward, never up.
Most anything that people want is available on the Black Market, and available by the multiple ton shipment, so please stop with the Ban Guns argument. What’s coming? More dead wives because of drunken husbands? More people shot by vets with PTSD? Get real. Look–I don’t think you can get rid of guns–Mr. Gunn’s prohibition arguments are sound.

But damned if you can prove guns keep us safe. The overwhelming level of violence in this country hums along without regard to guns. The level of violent crime is more traceable to demographics and economic conditions than gun ownership. The Florida example misses the point that economy slowly recovered in the years where violent crime dropped.

My point remains the attitude behind the guns. Until and unless we stop equating killing people as an American value, nothing will change. Until and unless we can look at what fascism is, and who supports it, arguments that our being well-armed somehow avoids it sound good, but are intellectually empty.

    84. umm, excuse me.
the ownership of guns is enshrined in the constitution not only to defend citizens from those who would seek to harm them, but also from tyranny itself. One cannot argue that a citizenry which is completely unarmed will be able to defend themselves from their government if it should turn tyrannical. Entropy dictates (and the founding father Abraham Lincoln, among others foresaw) that one day, the government of the USA would turn tyrannical. The ownership of guns in the US is not important only for self defense, national defense, but also to defend the people from the tyrannies of government. One cannot argue that it most certainly succeeds at this last one, the United States government is most certainly afraid of its people, and would not act to brazenly assault their freedoms and civil liberties, and instead has dedicated itself to a slow, steady erosion of these liberties.
As a canadian, I long argued for gun control laws until I had actually read what the founding fathers of the US constitution had written as a cause. their words formed a better argument than i had ever heard made.
I would argue that the high ownership of guns in the United States is not a factor in crime. I would say that the main cause of crime is americans themselves, and their dysfunction as a society. The sheer prevalence of violence on the television screen, in daily life, video games, popular media, etc. demands that young americans today are essentially brought up in what is a culture of violence. This, combined with a lack of good social services, results in the crime rates that are seen.
One cannot argue “many guns = low crime” any more than they can argue “no guns = high crime” it is simply more complicated than that.

look at the example of sweden, one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, good social services, and what do you know?? they are CLOSING prisons. they cant get enough criminals!!!
one needs to look at all the problems of a society, rather than just blaming “guns”… guns arent the ones ultimately pulling the trigger

    89. nback and a few others talk sense to my mind.

As a ‘Brit’ the USA sometimes looks an odd country. The link above that showed more crime in the UK than the USA failed to link to the stats for murder. USA is 24th (amongst the former Eastern Block countries and ones from the developing world) and the UK is 48th.

I don’t know if guns raise or lower the murder rate but from a country that has virtually no guns in private ownership (except some shotguns) the natural assumption is that lots of people are getting shot in the USA because there are lots of people with guns.

Certainly the other thing that comes across is how frightened many posters on this forum sound. Home invasions??? I had never heard of such a thing until today. And all the lurid stories about rape of your family and so on sound alien to me. Certainly horrible things happen here too but they are not a daily concern as they seem to be for some on this board.

My cousin used to live in the USA and she said similar things – about how she would worry having to stop at the lights in some areas of town in case of ‘car-jackings’! Weird.

Even if you did all decide your society would be better without guns its too late now to change anything. Your stuck with them whatever and I can’t see what difference another 14M a year is going to make either way.

Your films and tv might be better if the plot wasn’t resolved by a gun fight nine times out of ten (dodgy statistic there).

Also bearing arms against the government seems like a different thing to having them to scare or kill ‘home-invaders’. I agree it would be better if our UK government was more scared of the people but an armed revolution doesn’t seem like a good idea to me.

There’s lots to admire about the USA but it wouldn’t be top of my list for places to live. On the other hand there are a lot of other places I’d want to live even less.

    96. What a bunch of immature kids playing with guns! More guns mean less crime??? What province did you go to your elementary school in? Or did you even go to any elementary school at all? Switzerland has a low crime rate, not because it has many guns in circulation, but because it is a small highly civilized and educated European country, a total opposite of the US which is full of retards and criminals. Of course there are many other countries in the world plagued by no fewer retarded kids and criminals than the US. For example, xxxxx in Asia. This country xxxxx has their own share of crimes, but none of their crimes, NONE, involve guns or anything even remotely close to random shootings like the one in Columbine in the US. Why? In that country, no civilian owns a gun. By law, there is just no gun to use in a crime. So, the best tool their criminals come up with is a sashimi knife. Now, if you have any functioning cell left in your brain, would you rather have a criminal, a lunatic, or a delusional kid running loose with a GUN, or one with a KNIFE?

I cannot believe myself trying to explain such a painfully obvious thing like this. Aaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhh…….

    99. America has citizens. England has subjects. America is based on the Rule of Law not the whim of a monarch. And to ensure that, the Bill Of Rights states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” If you don’t approve of private ownership of firearms, you have the choices of (a) don’t own one, (b) move, or (c) ratify the Constitution.

As for England, their crime rate – including murder- as gone up since the English subjects there have lost their privilege to own a firearm. The same trend (banning firearms followed by an increase in murder/crime rates) has been repeated in several countries as mentioned above.

The citizens -not subjects- of America are regaining their right to own firearms. When the ban on “assault rifles” was lifted years ago, it was not followed by streets awash in blood as the predicted by the anti-self-defense progressives/leftists. As seen recently in DC, where once the ban on handguns was lifted the murder rate dramatically decreased, the same trend follows gun owners.

As for England, Samual Adams said it best: “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!” Enjoy your friendship with the muslims there who are taking over your country and will change your famous civil law into sharia because you are too scared to stand up for yourself. Crouch down and lick the hands that will soon commit more acts of terrorism in your once-great and once free country.

Doesn’t it feel a little over the top? This is still a great country, and it feels like it’s moving in the right direction again. I’ve been a gun-toting liberal for a long, long time, and I’ve seen this issue ebb and flow. We have a lot more to fear from Muslims packing dynamite and ball-bearings beneath their phony burqa than we do ranchers with a 30.06 in their pickup gun rack. Judging from how many Predators are busy in Pakistan, and how few guns are being confiscated back home, President Obama has his priorities straight.

“A compelling book with enough hard evidence that even politicians may have to stop and pay attention. More Guns, Less Crime is an exhaustive analysis of the effect of gun possession on crime rates.”—James Bovard, Wall Street Journal

“John Lott documents how far ‘politically correct’ vested interests are willing to go to denigrate anyone who dares disagree with them. Lott has done us all a service by his thorough, thoughtful, scholarly approach to a highly controversial issue.”—Milton Friedman

I agree with rex above that in an idealistic society without any guns in the hands of civilians, criminal or not, the kind of senseless killings committed with guns that we have to singularly live with in the US would not exist. In reality in the case of this country, however, an implementation of ban-all-guns policy would not get rid overnight of all guns held by gangs, psychopaths, etc. along with normal citizens. It will take years, decades, or longer to reduce the number of guns to even an approximate zero. Also it will be a prerequisite to completely outlaw the (huge) firearm industry, both domestic and smuggled, so that the supply itself dwindles to none especially for problematic individuals unwilling to hand over their guns. I doubt, though, that any of these Wild Wild West clowns who are so brainwashed by the persistent and systematic campaigns of the world’s largest firearms industry operating in the US would welcome giving up their toys in favor of a better society for their grandchildren.

My right as an American citizen to own a gun has nothing to do with statistics. The truth is that American crime rates are lower than our counterparts in Europe (http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/kouri/060220), so those liberals who seek to pursue that straw man will find the ground ripped out from under their feet swiftly enough.

But the real argument and point is this: I am a free man, the descendant of Saxons, Picts, the Cherokee, and Romans.

I am not some serf to be disarmed at my lord’s whim. I am not a peasant to be slaughtered by m’lord’s enemies when he is off to war. (In this case, when the police are over-stretched in my high-crime area and can’t respond to my needs in time, something that has occurred twice now.)

In fact, I have no lord. I am an American freeman, not some knee-bending European who grovels at the feet of the modern monarchs of socialism.

And my firearms, not the honeyed promises of fork-tongued politicians, are what make me different from my European counterpart.

“The Gun Is Civilization” by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception.

      Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat–it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act

My ancester James ketcherside lived in scotland, and was a fredom fighter, his entire family was be-headed except him and his brother. they made a homemade raft, and took 9 months of provisions with them, and were blown back by a storm taking them 10 months to arive, and the only thing James had to eat for the last 10 days of the trip was to suck on a soup bone. then when they arived, they inlisted in the melitia, and fought in the revolution. My dad is a norwegian, thus the name Yother. my ancesters always fought for fredom, even died to free african slaves in the cival war.

am I your chap? did the crown give me my freedom?

I am a machinist, have a machine shop, and could make myself a gun, and dont even have to register it, but I couldnt transfer it in any way, and I would love to own a gun, but I get CONVICTED for even THINKING abought it.

My Lord just keeps reminding me of this; 2 corinthians 13:11b live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. the differance between a muslim and a Christian is that muslims kill for their god, and Christians die for their God.

I think if ya”ll want to keep the government scared to round us up and stick us in concentration camps, then I am all for it.

I dont know the future but Christ does, and if He says He will protect me and my family, then I believe it. besides I’m pretty glad that a mexican with a gun saved me from being killed by a bunch of meth heads that attacked me, and beat me for hours, and knocked me out several times, and I woke to have him sitting on my back, face in the gravel, beating me in the back of the head, they used my unconcous body to ram out all the windows of my car, and sank it in a river. If I would have had a gun they would all be in HELL right now, but instead I prey for them that God will change them into the image of His Son. so I guess Guns arent for me.

Anyone can become as filthy as a demon if they thrust themselves down a REALLY bad path. Jesus’s blood can make the vilest sinner clean.

keeping guns wont stop this US government from destroying us, there doing it right now, but everyone is too scared to stand up to them, you wanna put your guns to good use, gather together, and go to the white house and arrest all the occupants. capture the ritch, take all but a million from them and use it to pay off the debt to china, deport all the muslims, tap our oil, give the elderly a free home on a little piece of land, make corn fuel, stop importing from china, build more factories, plant more food, feed the world, make the press a non profit federally funded unsensored uncoruptable institution, make it a crime for politicians to lie, make it a crime for police to not inforce it,etc… or just keep sitting on your guns, while the goverment robs us all blind. then when the government flees with all our money and leaves us a huge mess, we can use the guns to finnish destroying ourselves, while they sit in their mansions drinking margaritas and laughing at our peril.

if you think you should disregard everything I say because it sounds crazy; remember this is a crazy blinded world full of bowinkles who can never agree abought anything. somehow having a gun seems like the only sane thing to do. Not LOL

“There IS a correlation (sorry again, ‘link’) between the violence of US society and its high gun sales.”

You are confusing two concepts. There is a positive correlation between high gun sales and lower crime rates and a negative correlation between the violence of US society and gun sales. Corelation does not guarantee causation so we cannot affirm fron this correlation that more guns mean lower crime rates (there are other ways to prove this point) but it is very difficult to substain that higher gun sales produce higher crime rates since the correlation between this two variables is negative.

    169. The estimate is approximately over 200 million guns or more are in the possession of American civilians. Over 25 million Americans have had military training and combat experience since Vietnam. Millions of Americans who have never had combat experience or been in the military are adept hunters, who excell in comoflage and stalking, many million more never in the military and do not hunt are adept shooters. So, you might have approximately, 50-75 million Americans, conservatively, that are proficient, knowledgeable and capable with firesarms. In the event of some sort of war, revolution, it would be violent and on a level never before seen. The government, in my opinion is preparing to protect “itself” in light of a massive civil insurrection. As far as England goes, its not worth any concern, we have wasted enough moneys and men protecting the Brits in wars and bailing them out.

    170. I don’t know why anyone would respond to eastwood. He is merely trying to start fights because chaos is what these turds thrive on. The tenor and sentiment of his comments suggest a hatred unlike the rational response of an armed citizen reacting to crime. These people are statist change agents who would love nothing more than to turn this country into a bolshevik hell hole. Which it already is thanks to their policies. They care NOTHING for this country or people in general. In fact, they HATE people and freedom of all kinds. That is why they are gun grabbers, recess thieves, zero tolerance overlords and nanny state control freaks who care only about brutal control of others. It is their god.

    171. I’ve often wondered why brits get their panties in a wadd about our second amendment rights and the fact that we own so many wonderful guns,it doesn’t affect their lives so what is the deal? Calling Americans stupid isn’t going to change anything so what is behind the hatred? Could it be jealousy? I know that the brits pussied out and gave up their gun rights and their ability to defend their homes,if they ever had it.As an American,I will legally kill the shit out of a mother fucker if he breaks into my home, brits have to put up with home invasions, rape, murder, ect, ect.Yes,I think jealousy is behind it.

    172. The brits have lost their country to the ragheads and they can’t even go into certain neighborhoods in their own country because of the muzzies, soon an arab muslim will sit on the thrown of britian and there is absolutely nothing they can or will do about it,thats one of the many reasons the brits are jealous of our right to own guns and defend ourselves.

Do you think Mitt Romney hates this country? Barack Obama does! Do you think Mitt Romney detests capitalism, the same capitalism that earned him $300 Million or more? Barack Obama does! Do you believe that Mitt Romney would stop Israel from defending itself or stand aside while Israel is destroyed? Barack Hussein Obama would! Do you think that Mitt Romney would raise taxes and impose more red tape and restrictions on job creators, thus stalling the economy? Barack Obama already has. Do you feel that Mitt Romney wants to destroy the oil, coal and gas industries in the USA, thus putting us in the thrall of Islamic potentates who wish us to become Muslims? Barack Hussein Obama is well on the way to doing so. I could go on for hours. I’ve never had any love for Governor Romney, but when the choice comes down to either him or Barack Hussein Obama, a man dead-set on destroying my country, the country of my birth and whose uniform I proudly wore, there is no contest. And that is the choice. No third party or write-in candidate is going to be sworn in next January. As a disabled veteran, I humbly request that you prayerfully consider your position vis a vis the coming election and do what reason and faith tells you is the right thing for the United States of America. Thank you.

    174. Eastwood – you are also trying to disgrace an American icon,eh? You are far from a Clint. Clint Eastwood more than proved himself in the US Army. Have you got your bowing down for your soon to be King Abdul?

    175. What I see alot of anymore and no not like is all your local police departments buying all the army surlplus items. Think about it,these little township police dept equipped like a little army. I just have to wonder.

    176. I’m not a gun owner; probably would be if I lived in the country. Don’t dispute anybody’s right or desire to own one or more. Am certain that there’s no law could keep guns out of anyone’s hands who wants one (proof: how were liquor sales affected in the 1920′s? Illicit drugs currently). but, really, gun sales are up, crime rate is down for a year= gun ownership deterrs crime? Maybe it does, but that statistic proves nothing about “more guns=less crime”. Certainly it doesnt register in Europe where the crime and murder rates are lower than USA and private gun ownership is a a tiny fraction of the USA. And as far ar private gun ownership as a deterrent to invasion…if a force strong enough to defeat the American Armed forces invades the US, how can anyone with a bit of brain suggest that 45 0r 60 million private citizens armed with handguns and rifles will have more than a fly in a tornado chance?

    177. Greg….the point is “resistance”. Die standing up, take some with you. Don’t die on your knees. The 2nd Amendment isn’t about hunting, sports shooting, collecting, its not even about guns. Its about freedom. People who love freedom understand that.

    178. [...] 2009, in the throes of a recession, Ammoland says that we sold approximately 14,000,000 guns here in the US!  Isn’t that an awful, awful [...]

    179. Eastwood, I can clearly see that you are not an American by calling us Yanks or you want us to think that you aren’t. If not for our citizen army that tore the British a new one at Lexington and Concord, we would still be under the yoke. If you are American, get a brain. If not, keep you damn nose out of our affairs. You were right on one point. It is not to our best interest to tell how many guns have been sold in a certain amount of time. The gun grabber love to turn that against the law abiding citizens who are the only ones who buy guns. Criminals can’t buy them so they get them illegally by stealing them or on the black market. When prohibition took away all the whiskey and beer that make people drink even more so moonshiners and bootleggers had a field day. A whole new industry was born until prohibition was appealed as a failure. Eastwood must have a secret love of guns or would not be on this site. Isn’t it about time to come out of the closet?

FORGET ABOUT ALL THE POLITICAL AND CONSPIRACY THEORIES THAT TRY TO EXPLAIN OUR DECAYING SOCIETY. Everything the establishment tells you is delusional falsehood. The truth is that our political leaders are insane. They’re not just evil, or pandering. They are organically malevolent and paranoid traitors bent on phasing white society into the trash heap of history. Everything western governments enact is calculated to shepherd us into a slow, creeping genocide via social engineering, forcible ethnic integration and interracial marriage, economic displacement, floods of tens of millions of “immigrants,” political disenfranchisement, anti-white propaganda, and rewarding non-whites for acts of violence and predation committed against white people. This is GENOCIDE. Whether tyrants kill a people using either bombs or social policy, either way they’re dead.
