I’m not a gun owner; probably would be if I lived in the country. Don’t dispute anybody’s right or desire to own one or more. Am certain that there’s no law could keep guns out of anyone’s hands who wants one (proof: how were liquor sales affected in the 1920′s? Illicit drugs currently). but, really, gun sales are up, crime rate is down for a year= gun ownership deterrs crime? Maybe it does, but that statistic proves nothing about “more guns=less crime”. Certainly it doesnt register in Europe where the crime and murder rates are lower than USA and private gun ownership is a a tiny fraction of the USA. And as far ar private gun ownership as a deterrent to invasion…if a force strong enough to defeat the American Armed forces invades the US, how can anyone with a bit of brain suggest that 45 0r 60 million private citizens armed with handguns and rifles will have more than a fly in a tornado chance?

The estimate is approximately over 200 million guns or more are in the possession of American civilians. Over 25 million Americans have had military training and combat experience since Vietnam. Millions of Americans who have never had combat experience or been in the military are adept hunters, who excell in comoflage and stalking, many million more never in the military and do not hunt are adept shooters. So, you might have approximately, 50-75 million Americans, conservatively, that are proficient, knowledgeable and capable with firesarms. In the event of some sort of war, revolution, it would be violent and on a level never before seen. The government, in my opinion is preparing to protect “itself” in light of a massive civil insurrection. As far as England goes, its not worth any concern, we have wasted enough moneys and men protecting the Brits in wars and bailing them out.

There is a county in the State of Georgia that passed a law each home must have a gun. Sheriffs checked each home and sponsored lessons on gun safety and shooting. Crime went down very low because the criminals coming out of Atlanta new that each home had a gun and knew how to use it.
