Fairfax, Virginia – -(AmmoLand.com)- On Wednesday, January 20, Colorado State University (CSU) formally announced their draft proposal to prohibit firearms on all CSU campuses.

Exempt from the ban would be weapons used by law enforcement, military and the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).

This draft policy will be brought up for consideration at the CSU Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday, February 23. A copy of the draft can be found at www.safety.colostate.edu/files/weapons_policy_draft_01_15_10.pdf.

Last year, the CSU Board of Governors drafted the policy knowing that it would violate the Colorado state firearm preemption law and the Colorado Uniform Shall-Issue Concealed Carry Law. Current state law strictly regulates the carry or transport of firearms on schools, colleges and universities.

It is important that the people of Colorado voice their concerns to the CSU President that the policy must uphold the Colorado law and allow permit holders to carry concealed for self-defense.

Please contact President Tony Frank TODAY by phone at 970-491-6211 or email presofc@colostate.edu and respectfully urge him to comply with Colorado law.

Pro-Gun Bills Await Action in Denver, Colorado

Pro-Gun Bills Await Action in Denver, Colorado

Colorado – -(AmmoLand.com)- With session in full swing in Colorado, more pro-gun bills are beginning to move in the State Legislature.

Two important pro-gun bills, Senate Bill 51 and House Bill 1094, have been introduced and referred to the appropriate committees, where they currently await action.

Sponsored by State Senator Scott Renfroe (R-13), SB 51 would remove the Governor’s ability to “suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation” of firearms during a declared state of emergency. After Hurricane Katrina, law-abiding gun owners were left defenseless against looters, arsonists and other criminals after the New Orleans police superintendent ordered the confiscation of firearms. We must guarantee law-abiding citizens the ability to defend themselves and their families. Currently, SB 51 has been referred to but has not been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee.

On Thursday, February 11, the House Judiciary Committee will hear HB 1094. Sponsored by State Representative Cory Gardner (R-63), HB 1094, would extend Colorado’s self-defense law to apply in places of business. If passed, this legislation would permit all employees to defend themselves by any means of force, including deadly force, if they have reasonable belief that an intruder has committed, or intends to commit a crime, during unlawful entry. The exclusion of businesses in the current self-defense law has been a noticeable omission, which this bill seeks to rectify.

It is important that you contact the members of the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee and urge them to protect the rights of lawful gun owners during states of emergency by setting a hearing date for Senate Bill 51. Also, please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee and respectfully urge them to support HB 1094. Contact information for both committees can be found below.
