As I re-read my comments, I see that they came out a little harsher than I intended and I wasn’t clear that they were directed at the article, not you, so my apologies. My point is this: any antigun zealot can canvass a neighborhood and find many blind followers who won't take the time or effort to discover the facts before getting in line. A progun person, to gain followers, can only succeed by acknowledging that his audience is free to make their own decisions. As a group, we are smarter, more informed and less likely to follow anyone on a whim. We tend to get annoyed if someone tries to tell us what to do. When we hear the sales pitch, we hit the door.My suggestion is to appeal to our intelligence, rather than our fear. For example.I truly feel, that this march will draw the most freedom loving, knowledgeable and informed group of people ever to descend on Washing for a peaceful protest. Those who attend are not blindly following a Sarah Brady or a Scott Sugarman or any man, but are being true to their own internalized beliefs based on their own research of historical facts, modern analysis and interpretation of the Constitution. By taking part, you will be able to tell your Grandchildren one day that you were there. You made a difference. You helped save America.Rather than.Yet for some reason, gun owners are still sitting back in hinterland America waiting to see what happens, instead of being the Patriots we need right now and taking the initiative to make things happen… we’ve heard every excuse imaginable for why people can’t manage to show up in DC such as “it’s too expensive”, “it’s too far”, “it’s too short a notice”, and a whole list of other silly excuses.Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the intent and I agree that this is a desperate situation and that we all should go no matter what shooting genre we participate in. My point is only to stop the lecture and instead be a rallying point. No one is going to rally around someone that accuses him of being lazy and apathetic unless you do what I tell you. But we will rally around someone who respects us and whom we respect. The thing I like about the article is that it has clearly been written by one of us who has stepped up to the plate. We can all respect that, especially at a time when, once again, the NRA is absent when it counts (I’m talking about NRA leadership not the members).Of course, now I am lecturing.I have nothing but sincere admiration for anyone that makes the sacrifice required to attend. It will be an event in my life that I will never forget, no matter the outcome. I hope that we all decide to be like Mr. Smith... and go to Washington! Thank you R. Kreisler, for stepping up to the plate, even though your article got my goat a little bit.

BRN169,<br

Miller was an abomination in general, but it never actually rules against the individual right, merely tying WHICH arms would be protected to those suitable for militia or military usage. In fact, the Miller decision gives strong support to the protection of AUTOMATIC arms by individual citizens, that is, it indicates protection should be afforded to (at least) those arms commonly issued to the individual soldier.

Nice article.

You are correct when you say that Miller “was interpreted” as a collective right, but better would be to explain that is was really “misinterpreted” by those who MISREAD the Courts decision or who never actually read what the Justices wrote.

Nothing in Miller actually says this. It is they who are sitting on the side lines and will ultimately be the ones the media will point at and call irrelevant if this effort fails to make an impact.

Sorry, that was not intended to be a motivational speech to individuals per se; it was intended to be a wake-up call to all of the organizations that troll for our membership dues while telling us how dire a situation we have with respect to our rights being in jeopardy day in and day out, year after year. We are free and independent. Any attempt to convince us of anything will generally have the opposite effect. If I go, it will be because I made the decision to do so as an individual. Each one of us can only make that decision for ourselves. I will be there, not because of you, but because I have decided that I have a responsibility to go, for me, for my family and my kids. I will go as a responsible gun owner and a proud American, but please don't give me any dang lectures.Having said that, thank you, Robert, for voluntarily assuming a leadership role in this effort. The hardest thing in the world to do is to lead a group of your peers (unless you're a Democrat). It's a role that not many will attempt to fill. It takes a lot of guts and I respect that.Hope to see you there! Heck, I hope to see a million of us there!

I will be there, but, enough with the motivational speeches. We are gun owners. We don’t follow anyone. It cannot be made any clearer than that. The national and state gun rights organizations need to put aside petty differences and come together to stand as one voice united atop this hill. If this effort falls short the media will make no distinction between the NRA or the GOA or any other combination of letters you can come up with. They will simply reticule us as a whole, as a miniscule pathetic minority which can simply be overlooked. I challenge all of you to make the effort to join us on top of this hill in Washington DC this April 19th to make our final stand for our liberty, our county and our future. Thank you.

My fellow patriots, this is the hill upon which we fight our last battle, we win this war here or we die here… It cannot be made any clearer than that.
