Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reported 1,243,211 checks in February 2010, ranking the month the second highest February (eighth highest month overall) for most NICS checks.
This figure, while being a 1.3 percent decrease from the 1,259,078 checks conducted in February 2009 – the early stage of an ongoing surge in firearms and ammunition sales – is an increase of 21.7 percent over checks in February 2008.
The total number of background checks reported since the beginning of NICS is 112,380,272.
69% of people surveyed say Cities Don’t Have Right To Ban Handguns
As the Supreme Court considers the McDonald v. Chicago case, a new poll from Rasmussen Reports shows that 69 percent of Americans say city governments do not have the right to prevent citizens from owning handguns.
These findings are unchanged from June 2008 just before the Supreme Court overturned Washington, D.C.’s law banning handguns in that city. Read the full story from Rasmussen Reports.

Please don’t publish pictures of individuals practicing poor firearm safety as it reflects poorly on the responsible gun owners in this country.

It just proves that gun owners don’t ever intend to give up their rights to own and use firearms, wherever and whenever necessary!
I myself have purchased 3 handguns (1 – 22 Antique Revolver as a gift, 1 – .45 ACP, and 1 – .40 S&W), 1 rifle (303 British), and 1 shotgun (12 guage) since 02/09. It just so happens 2009 was a decent year for me financially and I was just growing my collection. However, I must admit that my need to have a firearm in half a dozen or so common calibers is in part based on the possibility of needing them for general survival someday. I don’t particularly feel like any outcome is more or less plausible than any other as there are simply too many factors outside of my (or anyone’s) control so I feel like I might as well prepare for good and for bad in my own way. Part of my own way would include having half a dozen firearms should I need to travel amidst dangerous surroundings. Be it post-natural-disaster, post-nuclear/chemical-apocalypse, post-complete-economic-collapse, etc I just feel like being able to use nearly anything you may happen to find is a good goal.
So yes I’ve purchased several guns since 02/09 but was it because I thought the government was going to come after me or that they were going to ban guns in general at any point? No. It was because I’m just a bit of a strange guy that feels like if he can be prepared even for some of the more extreme possibilities that perhaps if that day ever comes I won’t simply have to accept my fate or go quietly into the night. I can tackle whatever comes with the same resolve that every American should have against adversity. We’re here, we’re free, and we have every damn right to stay that way regardless of what comes out way.
