JACKSONVILLE, FL. – -(AmmoLand.com)- Safariland, a BAE Systems line of business, recognized three members of its Saves Club®, which honors law enforcement officers who have been saved in the line of duty while wearing one of Safariland’s life-saving products.

Previously known as either the Legion of Life or Second Chance Saves, the Safariland Saves Club brings together these outstanding programs to collectively honor those who protect us.

Jacksonville FL Sheriff’s Office Detective Jared Reston, Cedar City UT Police Officer Jason Thomas, and Missouri State Trooper Cody Dunfee were honored at the 2010 SHOT Show. As part of the Saves Club, each has already received a replacement vest. At SHOT Show, they also received a Saves Club commemorative coin, plaque and range bag.

During the presentation, each officer told his story, which is summarized below.

  • Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Detective Jared Reston was alerted of a shoplifting incident at the Regency Square Mall. While running from Reston, the suspect turned and fired six shots, hitting Reston in the face, chest and leg. Reston returned fire on the suspect, who died at the scene. Reston was wearing an ABA® HP vest, which saved his life.
  • Cedar City Utah Police Officer Jason Thomas attempted to assist a man who appeared to be stuck in the snow off the road. As Thomas approached, the man pulled out a 12-gauge shotgun and opened fire on Thomas. Thomas sustained two injuries to his side and left shoulder. He was wearing a Second Chance® Summit vest, which saved his life.
  • Missouri State Trooper Cody Dunfee and other officers were attempting to apprehend a suspect who was wanted in connection with attempted murder cases in two states. While attempting to execute a warrant, Trooper Dunfee was shot. Dunfee was wearing a PROTECH® Tactical Vest with an IMPAC™ Plate, which saved him from the shots from the Marlin .30-.30 rifle.“We are honored and extremely happy to be able to recognize Jared Reston, Jason Thomas and Cody Dunfee for their heroic acts,” said Ed Hinchey, Safariland Saves Club liaison, and himself a member of the Saves program. “Nothing reflects the spirit of Safariland and its people more than the Safariland Saves Club. With each product we make, we put emphasis on protecting the lives of those who use them.”
