SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. – -(Ammoland.com)- Kay Miculek of Princeton, La. came from behind on the final stage of the match to edge out Athena Lee of Katy, Texas and win the Lady’s Open division title at the at the U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) 2010 Area 4 Handgun Championship sponsored by firearms maker STI International.

In what would be the closest contest of the six division handgun championship, Lee started the match in first place after winning stage one, but then fell behind Lisa Munson of Marysville, Wash. who won the next two stages.

However it was on stage four that the match turned in Miculek’s favor.

After winning the fourth stage Miculek jumped to the head of the pack giving herself a 37 point lead over Lee. Over the next six stages Miculek held the lead while Lee chipped away at it with four stage wins to Miculek’s one.

On stage 11 Lee finally overtook Miculek by a mere 1.4943 points after winning the stage and heading to a showdown on the last stage of the match.

EXETER, NH --(Ammoland.com)-Team SIG 3-gun shooter, Erik Lund, narrowly missed first place to Taran Butler in a unique 32-man shoot-off on the FNH USA 3-Gun Nation Tour, Presented by SureFire.

This event followed the Sabre Defence Blue Ridge Mountain 3-Gun Match held April 23-25, 2010 at the Rockcastle Shooting Center in Park City, KY. Lund dominated his first four stages as he advanced past James Phelps, Joe Wong, Larry Toney and Jason Wong in route to the finals against Butler.

Butler found his groove first when leaving the rifle plates, but Lund accelerated through the shotgun plates, broke two clay birds and closed the distance heading into the final pistol targets. In a down-to-the-wire battle royale, Butler edged out Lund to be the first to knock down the cross-over stop plate and clinch the win.

“The exhilaration of man vs. man competition is something every serious shooter should strive to experience,” Lund commented. “Facing another person of equal skill and ability, alone on the field of battle with no excuses, is the ultimate expression of performance on demand. I expect that performance from myself and my equipment. SIG SAUER gives me the performance I need so I can perform on demand.”

Severe weather, including a tornado that had touched down within the county Saturday night, forced Match Director Andy Horner to make a tough decision and cancel the remainder of the Blue Ridge event for official scoring. These events lead to the change in 3-Gun Nation’s traditional 8-man shoot-off to a 32-man field composed of non-sponsored shooters, big-name pros, Blue Ridge range officers and family members.

The 3-Gun Nation shoot-off is a format like no other, where competitors take on steel rifle, shotgun and pistol racks in a race to the stop plate. To level the playing field, contestants fire an FNH USA SCAR 16 equipped with a SureFire muzzle brake and Fast Attach suppressor, chambered in .223 Rem., a new competition variant of the 12-gauge SLP semi-automatic shotgun, and the new FNX-9 semi-automatic pistol in 9 mm. Each gun runs ammunition provided by Federal Premium, and the rifles are topped with Weaver or Leupold optics.

An overview of the Blue Ridge Mountain 3-Gun Match, as well as the 3 Gun Nation shoot-off, is now available for viewing on 3gunnation.com. Eric Lund, as well as Andy Horner, Tony Holmes, Bruce Piatt, Dave Neth, Jerry Mickulec and Jason Wong are featured in the video.

  • Erik Lund’s next competition is the Rocky Mountain 3Gun in Raton, NM on August 5-7, 2010.
