EXETER, NH –-(Ammoland.com)- Team SIG Captain, Max Michel, secured his sixth first place finish of the 2010 competitive season in the Open Division at the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Area 5 Championships, held June 10-13, 2010 at the Tri County Gun Club in Polo, IL.

Teammate Matt Cheely also had an impressive match, coming in fourth place in the Limited Division. Despite on and off rain showers throughout both match days, over 330 competitors turned out to face the twelve difficult stages of fire.

Michel won eight of the twelve stages in the Open Division, finishing above the 84 division competitors with a score of 1416.1820, or 100%, to become the Area 5 Champion in the Open Division.

“This years Area 5 Championship was an amazing event. The stages were fun yet extremely challenging and the range was a great venue,” commented Michel. “The competition was top notch as I went head to head with a former US National Champion. My SIG SAUER custom 1911 yet again gave me the advantage as I won my sixth major championship this year.”

Cheely came in fourth overall amongst a field of 97 competitors in the Limited Division with a score of 1359.1312, or 95.20%. Cheely placed within the top ten in each stage of competition in the Limited Division, securing first place finishes in Stage 6 “Paper Paper Paper” and Stage 8 “No Shoot Nurses.”

“The match was a technical one with many off balance shots, but the stages were interesting and tested many different skills,” commented Cheely. “I concentrated on shooting clean, and didn’t have any penalties or Delta’s for the whole match, which helped in the tough crowd of Grand Masters that showed up for this competition. I’m happy with my performance for my third major match of the year, and look to continue building up for nationals in the fall.”

Michel’s next competition is the USPSA Area 1 Championship in Idaho Falls, ID on June 24-27, 2010. Cheely will be competing in the USPSA Area 8 Championship held August 26-29, 2010 at the Fredericksburg Rod and Gun Club in Fredericksburg, VA.
