Team SureFire’s Barry Dueck Wins a Pair of Big 3 Gun Matches
Fountain Valley, CA --(AmmoLand.com)- SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high-end illumination tools, suppressors, and tactical products, is proud to announce that Barry Dueck, director of SureFire’s suppressor division, has won the FNH Midwest and the MGM Ironman 3 Gun competitions in the Heavy Optics division.
These wins place Dueck alone at the top of the 3 Gun Nation leader board.
“It’s nice to win for a change,” said Dueck. “I’m used to coming in second or third, so winning is great, but winning back-to-back is a thrill.”
At the FNH Midwest 3 Gun held in Fayette, MO—an NRA sanctioned match—Dueck beat out a field of 18 shooters to take top honors as the Heavy Optics class winner. After 10 stages of intense shooting, Dueck led with an overall score of 832.798, more than 50 points ahead of the nearest competitor.
Win number two came at the 11th Annual MGM Ironman 3 Gun. The Ironman is arguably the most dynamic and grueling multi-gun competition in the world. To win, you must fire over 1,000 rounds of ammunition from various positions, hanging on a zip line, and from sniper distances. Rifles, pistols, and shotguns are all pushed to the edge. In three days, the competitors spent sun-up to sun-down on the range. The match is held in Parma, ID, which means the days go from 7am to 10pm during the summer months.
“The Ironman is a tough enough match when the weather is good,” said Dueck. “But three days of 15-50 mph winds in the Idaho desert was just brutal. My strategy changed day one, from focusing on the next stage, to focusing on keeping my gear clean and covered.”
Despite the tough conditions, Dueck managed to win eight of the ten stages, and won the overall division with a score of 929.88. The nearest competitor received a score of 737.94. This win sets Dueck at the top of the overall 3 Gun Nation leader board as he heads into the last qualifying event next month, before the $25,000 championship at the USPSA Multi-gun Nationals in September of this year.
The Heavy Optics or Heavy Rifle class puts the shooter at a disadvantage by having them to shoot bigger caliber firearms than the tactical classes. So instead of a traditional semi-automatic 9mm pistol, .223 caliber rifle, and semi-automatic shotgun, the “heavy” divisions must shoot a .30 caliber rifle (usually a .308 carbine), a .45 caliber pistol, and a 12-guage pump shotgun. The firearms have greater “kick” making follow-up shots more difficult and typically making the times slower for the entire round.
Barry Dueck is a Marine Corps and Army Reserve veteran. He joined SureFire in 2000 as an instructor for the SureFire Institute. He now leads SureFire’s renowned suppressor division, which also turns out the SureFire muzzle brakes that have helped win many championships. Champion shooters like Mike Voigt, Taran Butler, and scores of others have used the SureFire muzzle brakes to win National Championships and even the World Championship in 2008 when Voigt and Dueck were teammates. Dueck is sponsored by SureFire as well as Lewis Machine & Tool, Dueck Defense, Hornady, and VhitVori.
