San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Top firearms industry executives and professional competitors left the Eighth Annual Shooting Industry Masters with more to show from the two-day shooting match than just a good time.
Nearly 270 shooters representing 62 teams also helped the Masters raise a record-breaking $32,000 for the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) First Shots program.
This brings the amount raised to $57,000 by the Masters for First Shots in two years. The Masters, held July 23-24 in Grand Island, Neb., and owned and operated by FMG Publications, also raised $7,000 for the USA Shooting team.
“Upward, ever upward goes the Shooting Industry Masters!” said NSSF President Steve Sanetti. “And its success is our success, and the future of shooting in America grows more secure. FMG’s match raised a record amount for the First Shots introductory shooting program that actively creates new shooters–and it works!
“The 2010 Masters was the best one yet, and everyone who attended had a lot of fun with both the official course of fire and the side events. Our hats are off to all the fine people at FMG who created this fine event, which somehow manages to exceed our expectations each and every year.”
Shooting Industry Masters
The Shooting Industry Masters attracted a record 23 sponsors for the event. Industry manufacturers and supporters also contributed the largest collection of raffle prize packages in the eight-year history of the match.
“We’re amazed every year by the generosity of the people in this industry who support the First Shots program,” said Randy Molde, Masters chairman.
“Their efforts help set the bar higher each year. We all recognize how important it is to bring new consumers into our industry and grow the shooting sports. We’re proud to be part of these extraordinary results.”
Molde also thanked Hornady Manufacturing, this year’s Masters host, for their help before, during and after the match. The city of Grand Island also exceeded expectations, with assistance from the Grand Island Economic Development Corporation and the Grand Island Sports Council, according to Molde.
“The Heartland Public Shooting Park was an exceptional venue,” said Molde. “The city was fantastic. The convention and visitors bureau went out of its way to make us feel welcome as well as the hotel staff and everyone we met.”
The top teams and shooters were honored during an awards reception at the Grand Island Midtown Holiday Inn July 24.
The 2010 Shooting Industry Masters top shooters and teams were:
- High Team: Industry Class — Smith & Wesson III (Jeremy Nuttelman, Peter Harand, Jim Unger, Matt Nyman).
- High Shooter: Industry Class — David McDaniel, Smith & Wesson.
- High Lady: Industry Class — Linda Powell, Freedom Group.
- High Team: Open Class — Hornady Pro (Rick Porter, Adam Popplewell, Kelly Neal, Carl Bernosky, Jeff Crambilt).
- High Shooter: Open Class — Jerry Miculek, Smith & Wesson
- High Lady: Open Class — Diana Liedorff, FNH USA.
The Masters is a handgun, rifle, shotgun competition divided into two classifications: Industry and Open. The Industry class is for new to intermediate shooters, while the Open class is for professional and advanced shooters. Regardless of class, scores are not published to maintain the no-pressure, fun atmosphere of the Masters.
The event was held in conjunction with the presentation of the 2010 Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence Awards presentations.
