On a purely economic basis this refusal to alllow the M1′s to be sold in USA is untenable and grossly unfair to our citizens. Taking into account the cost that M1s sell for in the average gunshop, plus transfer fees, sales taxes, etc.,
(and adding the original manufacturing cost of these rifles to the taxpayer@ approx $30 each) the loss to the USA
of blocking this arrangement is around $370,000,000,
less S&H of course. Figure it out.
Of course American gun manufacturers may (behind the scenes) support this move by the Pres. because they could lose sales opportunities for their own products. I hope not!

THESE WEAPONS COULD BE PURCHASED BY THE GOVERNMENT , TURNED OVER TO THE ..”CIVILIAN MARKMANSHIP PROGRAM (CMP) THAT WOULD EXAMINE , DISASSEMBLE , REPAIR , CLEAN , REASSEMBLETHE WEAPONS FOR SALE MARK THEM AS EITHER FAIR, GOOD , OR TOP QUALITY AND SELL TO THE PUBLIC AS LOMD AS THE BUYING MEMBEMBER BELONGED TO A CARD CARRING MEMBER OF AN ASSO. STATE MEMBERSHIP TO THE CMP ORGANIZATION.
THE OTHER RIFLE’S WOULD BE USED FOR SPARE PARTS THAT WOULD BE SOLD UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS ! NONE WOULD BE WASTED OR BE SUBJECTED TO A MELT DOWN S CLINTON WANT’S ANS OBAMB APPROVES OF !

Can these people get a clue anywhere? “could potentially be exploited… for illicit purposes.” What the hell? What gang-banger is going to tote around a 9 lb battle rifle that only holds 8 rounds? I’ve fired an M1. It rings your bell after about 4 rounds. I have to stop to clear the fog out of my eyes!! Drug dealers in Mexico can buy true full-auto assault rifles on the black market for 1/8th of what these M1′s will retail for. Maybe we can all chip in so the Obama administration can buy a clue.

To melt these icons of American military history down would be a sin. As far as being a danger One can go to his local gun shop or even a Military PX that sells firearms and purchase any number of makes of Semi autos that the gun banners love to label assault rifles. Shows their total ignorance in that they have no concept of what an assault weapon is but are fast to affix the name to anything that fits their fancy. I want one of these M1 Garands. It would make a great concealed weapon. Like the single shot Barrett .50 that can bring down an airliner?

Have you noticed that a huge quantity of brand new SKS’s have flooded the market, as not seen in thirty years. Where do you think those SKS’s were imported from? China? For sure. Importing the M1 Garands from South Korea would infringe on China’s ability to sell their SKS’s to the American public. This issue has nothing to do with the American public arming themselves, it is purely economic.
