I left something very important out of my last posting, Rabbi. People, like myself, who are for stricter gun control laws are not singling out any particular religion. You only mentioned Jewish people who wanted stricter gun laws, why didn’t you mention Christians, Atheists, Agnostics, Muslims, Buddhists etc. Everyone deserves equal protection under our constitution. Next time make a list of everyone who is for stricter gun laws. Maybe Jared Loughner wouldn’t had that gun in the Safeway parking lot that horrible Saturday, if that had been the case. Rabbi’s should know to think before voicing such strong opinions, blurring the facts. If you recall, we had the “Brady Bill” after President Reagan was shot along with Jim Brady. It was for stronger gun control for everyone, not one particular religion. Neither of them were Jewish.

Before you send out letters, please don’t allow the facts to get in the way of your opinion. How could you possibly misuse the term “Righteous Gentiles”. You honestly don’t know who Righteous Gentiles are? For your information here is the definition:
‘Righteous Gentiles’ is the phrase used for those non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. At Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem, over 11,000 ‘Righteous Gentiles’ are honored; almost 5,000 are Polish.
And are you implying that the prestigious Jewish Senators and Mayor Bloomberg are trying to disarm Jewish people. Wow, amazing……………maybe they just want to prevent another “Tucson” or “Columbine”. We have a second amendment and the Supreme court has upheld it. EVERYONE (yes, all Jews, including me) who are sane can own a gun. Get your facts correct and quit bandying the word “Nazi” around like it’s a normal word. It’s not, and quit embarrassing survivors and their families. You are the embarrassment to the Jewish Religion. Check facts before spewing opinions.

I too am a “Gentile” and I agree 100% with this article. I am dumbfounded how so many Jews, knowing their own history, still insist on trusting the government for their protection. The Torah should really have an 11th commandment:

“Thou shalt arm himself to protect his family and community from all danger”

I am surprised at how many Jews are proud of armed Israeli soldiers yet reject the very tools they use to protect themselves.

Rabbi Dovid Bendory writes, “Jews – and always remember, we are a tiny minority – live safely in America under the beneficent protection of Righteous Gentiles.”. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the USA founded on principles of freedom of religion and separation of church and state? Therefore each religious group (and those without affiliation or religion) together make up the USA. Sheer weight of numbers doesn’t give one group any moral high ground or ability to determine whether others are deemed worthy of their “protection”.

For what it’s worth I find the whole article quite poor, labelling calls for stricter guns laws as “naïve foolishness” is the height of arrogance.

Although I am not Jewish, I am totally on “their side” for lack of a better term. I am a student of Krav Maga, and a lot of respect for the IDF and what they still face everyday.

Anytime we can come together to support and defend the 2nd Amendment, gun rights, and being able to get concealed weapons permits, the better it is for society as a whole.
