COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –-(Ammoland.com)- The Winchester Athlete of the Month is 2008 Men’s Skeet Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock.

After a relatively quiet season in 2011, Hancock laid it on the line at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. He shot a solid 122 targets to tie Cuba’s Guillermo Torres headed into the final.

Torres, a five-time Olympian was shooting for an Olympic quota for Cuba and was determined to fend off the competition.

Both remained straight in the final until Torres missed two consecutive targets-low seven and high eight. Hancock remained untouchable in the final for a perfect 25 targets for 147 total targets.

At the 2007 Pan American Games, Hancock (and former teammate Todd Graves) set the record at 147 and mirrored that record four years later.

National Shotgun Coach Bret Erickson said, “It was great to see Vinny shoot a world-class score and win the Pan American Games. After a tough year it’s nice to see him back on top of the podium.”

HancockHancock is currently leading the U.S. Olympic Team Trials and is looking forward to the second half of Trials in May of 2012. Hancock said, “It’s an honor to be selected as the Winchester Athlete of the Month especially with as many great athletes as we have competing and high medal count from the Pan American Games.

I look forward to continuing to work hard and train and hopefully another Olympic medal next year too!” USA Shooting would like to congratulate Vincent Hancock and wish him success for 2012.
