As a commenter said in another post, the Chief of police is an appointed position and his boss is the Mayor or Governor, whereas the Sheriff is an elected position and his “boss” are the people that elected him. He doesn’t answer to the Governor or Mayor and that’s why Sheriffs around the country are standing up for the 2nd amendment…local cops will lose their jobs if they do.
