The whole 1911/.45ACP is built entirely on the American propensity to believe "bigger is better" despite any other factor, and of course, marketing, and an ignorant consumer. This is why I am constantly seeing people make ridiculous statements like: "The .45ACP is more effective than the .44 Magnum…" and even more outrageous; "I want an AR-15 in .45ACP as an 'entry gun' because it has more stopping power than the weak 5.56…" REALLY? 1911 was good – still is, but it's outclassed on every level my newer designs, the M9 being just one. The great caliber debate is based on a misunderstand of history, not empirical facts. The Army dropped the ball here. They should have returned to the 1911, .45 caliber long ago!

Just ask the men that have to use a sidearm what they would prefer?
