FAIRFAX, Va. --(Ammoland.com)- Opening Ceremonies for NRA’s 50th National Police Shooting Championships will take place at the Shooting Range Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Monday, September 17th 2012 at 7:30 am.

Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry is scheduled to welcome competitors to the event.

The National Police Shooting Championships (NSPC) begin on September 17th and conclude on the 20th. More than 600 officers from federal, state, municipal and private agencies, as well as four foreign countries, are expected to compete in this year’s tournament.

“Coming back to Albuquerque is like coming back home,” said NRA Director of Law Enforcement Glen Hoyer. “Governor Martinez, Mayor Berry and the Albuquerque Police Department have been extremely helpful in our preparations for the 50th NRA National Police Shooting Championships.”

NPSC utilizes real law enforcement shooting skills. Competitors start with guns holstered and fire timed matches with both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols from varying distances and positions. The aggregate scores from the shotgun, revolver and semi-automatic pistol matches are used to determine the National Grand Champion. Defending champion Robert Vadasz, a Senior Agent with the U.S. Border Patrol, returns for an attempt to claim his 4th overall crown.

Live updates and real-time results from the 2012 NPSC are available at www.NRAblog.com.

The Championship enjoys tremendous sponsor support from sponsors such as Brownells, Springfield Armory, H&K, FNH, Smith & Wesson, Glock, Sig Sauer and Colt, allowing NRA to offer match and category winners one of the finest collection of prizes in all of law enforcement competitive shooting. Long time NPSC supporter and NRA Board Member R. Lee Ermey, as known as The Gunny, will be on site for the event.

First held in 1962, the National Police Shooting Championship is just one of many programs directed by NRA’s Law Enforcement Division. These programs are supported by the Davidson’s Law Enforcement Endowment and the Law Enforcement Training Endowment of the NRA Foundation, which includes a generous $251,000 donation from Brownells, Inc. and more than 100 other firearm related businesses.
