Event to Help Feed Philadelphia Homeless on Thursday, October 18 2012, Venison Tacos the Fare to Feed 350 Shelter Participants.
New Berlin, Wis. --(Ammoland.com)- Sportsman Channel, Comcast and Back on My Feet are teaming up to host a Hunt.Fish.Feed event in Philadelphia on Thursday, October 18, serving a special venison taco dinner at Saint John’s Hospiceto more than 350 of those in need.
Special guest Scott Leysath, Sportsman Channel TV host and Executive Chef, will help prepare and serve venison tacos with all the fixings. Hunt.Fish.Feed., created by Sportsman Channel, is a unique outreach program that taps an underutilized food source—game meat and fish donated by sportsmen—to feed those struggling with hunger across America. Philadelphia’s event will utilize more than 100 lbs of venison donated by Mule Deer Foundation.
“We’re especially honored to bring our Hunt.Fish.Feed.initiative to Philadelphia and experience the ‘brotherly love’ the city and our volunteers are offering at Saint John’s Hospice. We look forward to working with our partners at Comcast, Back on My Feet and the shelter to make this a successful and impactful event,” said Todd Hansen, COO of Sportsman Channel. “Programs like Hunt.Fish.Feed provide unique avenues to help the needy, especially during an economic time that finds more and more people in need every day.”
”We are thrilled to be part of this creative and unique effort to help the homeless of Philadelphia,” said Comcast Regional Vice President of Community Investment, Bob Smith. “Projects like Hunt, Fish, Feed and Back on My Feet demonstrate that there are ways for us all to lend a hand and help people get their lives back on track.”
Now in their 50th year of serving those less fortunate in Philadelphia, Saint John’s fulfills an essential ministry of the Church and is part of Catholic Social Services (CSS) of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Back on My Feet is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating independence and self-sufficiency within the homeless and other underserved populations by first engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. Thursday, October 18 Saint John’s Hospice 1221 Race Street Philadelphia, PA 19107 http://saintjohnhospice.org Serve: 12 pm to 1 pm Serving approximately 350 men
“It’s more than a meal—it’s dignity. Saint John’s Hospice is all about dignity, respect, nourishment and opportunity. We cannot do what we do without this generous support. Our men have no idea what a treat they’re in for. This will be like watching our kids open presents on Christmas morning. But the important thing is that they will recognize in this small event that people care. And from there comes a little bit more strength to face life more positively and walk away sensing that they are not alone,” said Gerald Hout, Director of Community Relations for Saint John’s Hospice.
