New York –-(Ammoland.com)- Reports of looting in areas of New York City and Long Island ravaged by Hurricane Sandy underscore the need for average citizens to have ready access to firearms for personal protection.

Both the New York Post and Daily News have run stories of average New Yorkers forced to use improvised weapons including baseball bats, machetes, and even bows and arrows, to protect themselves from roving bands of looters and lowlifes seeking to enrich themselves off the suffering of others.

For decades, numerous area politicians including the current Mayor Michael Bloomberg, have built their political careers selling one gun control scheme after another under the guise of public safety. It is undeniably apparent in the wake of Sandy that these policies have failed and failed miserably.

It is high time for New York to reform its gun laws and bring them into the mainstream of American society. NYSRPA calls upon the state legislature to enact a statewide non-discriminatory right-to-carry firearms for personal protection law and for the Senate to pass H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act.

I have to agree with Harkrader. I am big into responsibility and believe we largely create our own circumstance. If obama is reelected, this nation deserves exactly what is coming for it.

I'm going to take a harsh stance on this. NYCers deserve what happened to them. They elelcted, re-elected and unreservedly supported this fascist. Until they unceremonyously divest themselves of him and his like, they deserve what they get.

When will you people understand that no gov't agency is there to protect you .The SCOTUS even says they don't have to. They only make laws to control you, if not then why do no laws pertain to them? This nation has become a nation of dictatorship, not laws. You can't vote them out, there is too many of them. This is exactly why we had the Revolutionary War. History repeats it's self. And it will again.

Arron, I concur with you 100% !! In 'free of firearms' areas, only the crooks are armed… it's shameful these stupid politicians can't, don't,won't understand that.

Yup… let's start with not making people into automatic criminals by having "out of area" firearms within Manhattan or the boroughs. My NYS handgun permit took a lot of time, fees, paperwork and background checking. There is no earthly reason for it to be invalid in NYC – I've been checked out and vetted very thoroughly by that process, so it should be good anywhere I feel like traveling to.
