For someone to compare Alan Caruba’s article with watching Glenn Beck is actually quite an endorsement as to the substantive nature of its contents. It’s illuminating to observe how the left constantly paints Glenn Beck as an extremist… if you look at what Mr. Beck has been predicting since shortly after 9/11/2001, he has a pretty amazing track record. With all due respect, Chevas, Glenn Beck’s words carry a lot more weight than do yours. And as to your comment that the only proposal that you have seen is limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds, have you seen Diane Feinstein’s proposed “assault weapons” ban? The basic content on her declaration of war on gun owners is readily available for reading. Along with banning most semi-auto rifles, her draconian and tyrannical wish-list would ban pump-action shotguns, and a majority of handguns, just for starters, were it to pass. Seriously, do you think that you’re talking to people who believe the garbage that most of the “mainstream” media are putting out? We gun owners have been lied to, maligned, and demonized for far too long by our dishonest media and out-of-touch, self-serving politicians. The government and the media have consistently acted in bad faith by putting out false information about the NRA and other pro-gun organizations, lying about firearms and those who own them, and fanning the flames of hatred and division at a time when people count on them for truth and level-headed discourse on the problem of criminal abuse of liberty. The NRA has been falsely painted as a terrorist organization by various pundits and even some politicians, when the truth of the matter is that the most effective terrorist organization operating in America today is none other than our corrupted and co-opted media. To pretend that these are not some of the most dangerous times in our Nation’s history is at best disingenuous, and is recognized as such by anyone who values our sacred Constitution.

Right to the last moment, I see certain deluded folks saying,’they won’t come for your guns’. How novel such thought! (not!) These are the people who willingly buy into the incremental, bit by bit disarmament of the population. Starts with banning certain weapons, mostly cosmetic characteristics that scare the liberals just by their looks, the ‘evil’ high capacity magazines for these ‘evil’ guns and this time additionally certain shotguns and pistols. What you refuse to acknowledge is that the fish hooks in this bill, while grandfathering the owners of these ‘evil’ guns allowing them to (temporarily) keep them, we must register every one, pay a $200 tax on each and have a mug shot and fingerprinting. If you can’t see how this leads directly to the next step of confiscation since they now know exactly who you are, what you have and a mug shot to go with it, then are you really competent enough to be a firearm owner? Don’t you realize that with a mug shot the govt could use their security cameras with the technology to hunt you where ever you go in their network? I’m betting Nazi Germany and Russia were saturated with this same mentality, right up to the end. Both these countries had well armed citizens, especially Russia, before incremental gun control took their arms and the govt massacred millions of them.

I disagree that “no one is coming for your guns.” This government is already full of criminals and outright traitors. It is a tyranny. Tyrants always want to disarm those who they would enslave or murder.

the libs practice what the Bosheviks srarted…’Lie long enough & people will believe it’s true’. This has been happening for 40 yrs now.
They will come after our guns unless we unite….organize defense groups in your community. There are more of us then them.
But better we avoid armed conflict as only Americans will die in the clash. Write your congressmen weekly. Deluge them w/ your displeasure w/ their unpatriotic cowardice. Then go meet your state assemblymen. Tell them you want your state to ‘Nullify’ the unconstitutional ‘executive mandates & laws’. Organize w/ like minded patriots NOW. We can start to turn the tide if we give it all we got. The libs are cowards. If we show resolve & courage we will take America back. It won’t be over night…but we must act now. DO you really believe what you speak???? Then ACT. Write Op-Eds in your local papers. Organize in your neighborhoods to find out who you are like minded w/. Then encourage one another to write, visit congressmen…. do it NOW…

I read a book when I was a young lad in high school that in one line quoted Franklin Roosevelt saying that any time some thing happens and government is involved you can bet it did not happen by accident. As far back as 1961 our government had been planning this. Any time our government wants to go to war or pass some law in which there is a possibility that it will not be popular there is an event created. The government does not care how many or what age or sex of lives affected as long as they get what they want. Now we are on the edge of another socialist step to enslave us more and it looks like they will get what they want. It’s too bad that we do not have the same country in which I was born into. I am scared as all hell when I see families torn apart based on opinions voiced to the younger crowd. They are convinced that Utopia is just around the corner while the whole time the wiser ones are trying their best to teach caution. As children some of us were taught about one in hand is worth two in the bush. alot of us knew this bunch was trouble and knew full well who is running them. So now it is looking like things are turning viral. With this in mind I worry about my children as well as my Grand children and what the future holds for them. It does not look good. History is about to make another run on the world. All the warnings are there if one chooses to pay attention. And then there are those who think that playing on their side will help them through the whoops. I wish them luck but as some of us know that when they are done using them to do their dirty work they are toast as well. As my Grand father used to say “the world is going to hell in a hand basker

You are out there, man. The picture of Obama as a secret communist says it all. The communist, though, generally to not give large subsidies to private industry and not take them over. Communism does not support or foster entrepreneurs. In fact, mostly vestiges of pure communism are left and are failing. Our foreign policy is much more nuanced. Reading this is like watching Glenn Beck. People are afraid the “Boogeyman” is coming. I have successfully sued and won against the government for violation of civil liberties and had local laws changed. The dollar is not going down, where else u gonba have it, the Euro, the Yuan? This is a red scare when the commies are not the main threat, and your commentary inhibits evidence based discussion by miring it with fear. The Gulog? Come on brother.

Democrats are not the same as Nazi’s. No one has put forth legislation that would come after every weapon. The only proposal I have seen is a limit on 10 round magazines. If you plan to take up arms against your government, the fight will not last long. You will be dead soon. Remember, the National Guard has a Special Forces Batallion. Likewise, not every gun owner sees a “slippery slope” of throwing out the second amendment by limiting the size of a magazine. FDR did not cause the depression. He did not extend it. Keynesian economics were deployed and people put to work. It was the policies of his predecessor, trying to cut himself from deficits that exacerbated the problem. There is a time for Kaynsian economics and there is a time for supply side economics. Mostly, however, it is a melding of the two. These repubs could have 10 Nobel prize winning economist tell them the same thing on economic policy and they wouldn’t sign the bill. They are idealogues with a social Darwinist streak. Some spending is necessary. And how people who make less than 250k, and are concerned about the deficit could go against rolling back the Bush tax cuts after 250; well, I make more than that and I don’t mind paying more. I still get the break up to 250, wait now 450, no tax increase for me then. The extrapolation of gun regulation into the need for armed revolt is ludicrous. We can discuss policy but just cool you heels; no one is coming for your guns.

Well Alan, I think that might put you high up on the list of the “disappeared”. I say that, sadly, only in half-jest.

Don’t worry too much about those who may opt for the chains. The leading edge of the coming storm is economic. Those chains will evaporate and unleash a frightened, then angry, then violent portion of the population. That is the beginning of the next civil war which will turn to revolution. At the onset it will be called “civil unrest” as the cities begin to burn. Those populations will divest themselves of resources and take to the road to find what they lack. Though intially they will be correct, the outskirts are weak, in the end an atrition will be met and the uncivility will cease. Then what? A government that seizes the opportunity to control the population and remove our consent to be governed. Now we will see the real slaves and those who refuse.

So hang on, it’s going to get rough. I’ll see you either in the gulag or the reformation of the Consititutional Convention. If I fail to show up, I am dead.

What upsets me and angers me the most is that the draconian gun laws that they will force on the American people will destroy the Second Ammendmentm, most of our liberties, and essentially gut the U.S. Constitution. This happened in Germany prior to WWII. The Weimar Constitution was destroyed by socialist-fascists in the same way. Progressive Demorats are the same as Nazi’s.

A good article, but you should not accept the widely held notion that WWII brought the end of the Great Depression… “It took the advent of World War II to energize the manufacturing sector and increase employment.” It was freedom, and the free market, that overcame the government-caused economic disaster that was the Depression. If wars (mass government spending) have the ability to repair the economy, shall we accept the fallacy that Obama’s so-called “stimulus” spending will help us now?
