Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)-According to the FBI annual crime statistics, the number of murders committed annually with hammers and clubs far outnumbers the number of murders committed with a rifle.

This is an interesting fact, particularly amid the Democrats’ feverish push to ban many different rifles, ostensibly to keep us safe of course.

However, it appears the zeal of Sens. like Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) is misdirected. For in looking at the FBI numbers from 2005 to 2011, the number of murders by hammers and clubs consistently exceeds the number of murders committed with a rifle.

Think about it: In 2005, the number of murders committed with a rifle was 445, while the number of murders committed with hammers and clubs was 605. In 2006, the number of murders committed with a rifle was 438, while the number of murders committed with hammers and clubs was 618.

And so the list goes, with the actual numbers changing somewhat from year to year, yet the fact that more people are killed with blunt objects each year remains constant.

For example, in 2011, there was 323 murders committed with a rifle but 496 murders committed with hammers and clubs.

While the FBI makes is clear that some of the “murder by rifle” numbers could be adjusted up slightly, when you take into account murders with non-categorized types of guns, it does not change the fact that their annual reports consistently show more lives are taken each year with these blunt objects than are taken with Feinstein’s dreaded rifle.

Another interesting fact: According to the FBI, nearly twice as many people are killed by hands and fists each year than are killed by murderers who use rifles.

The bottom line: A rifle ban is as illogical as it is unconstitutional. We face far greater danger from individuals armed with carpenters’ tools and a caveman’s stick.

And it seems fairly obvious that if more people had a gun, less people would be inclined to try to hit them in the head with a hammer.

    1. Truth is, I would rather be shot than beat to death with a hammer. But I do support hammer control, we need background checks at hardware stores…

    2. More adults and children are killed each year in alcohol related car crashes. 245 children died in 2007 among 13,000 people killed that year. Yet, no one is banning alcohol. Also, the police chief association reported supporting an assault weapon ban, but they have a federal law that allows them to continue carrying weapons after retirement anywhere in the US even when they are over 90 years old to protect themselves. So, they don’t care about the rest of us.

    3. Once again; This assumes there is reason and logic behind the proposed ban. Nothing could be further from thr truth. This is about banning those “evil” guns. This is about government control of it’s citizens. It was bad enough under previous administratuions. Now they’re proposing tracking devises manditory in every car. Tracking chips in our children. All for our own good. Barak Obama IS “Big Brother” You remember: the beloved tyrant, darling of the media?

    4. The police transcript from the day of the shooting claimed they found the AR15 in the car. (Available on line)

I called my Illinois State Senator and started to tell the senators aid about that very fact and they stopped me and said they already knew the AR was found in the car and was not actually used in the shooting.

This means are calls are working!

      Keep it up!

    5. AS if the Federal government is so concerned about saving American lives. What a joke. Mass murderers concerned about American lives.

    6. Of course the gun grabbing media would never publish this. They want your congressmen to think that you are for gun control.

    7. Great article, and loaded with facts I personally knew but unfortunately not enough other people know or realize.
The fact is,the prohibitionists will not interpet this as meaningful, and will just blow it off.
(When are we to learn this?)…….. #1 They are really after the handguns and ammo.
#2 After that, the rifles and ammo.
#3 Lastly, our Freedom and Liberties.
      (Action we have to take)……..
#1 Do Not Give Them An Inch, Hear Me?
#2 Prepare for Revolution. They drew first blood, not us.
#3 Refer to #2. “Molon Labe”

    8. I will never help a LIB getting robbed, raped or murdered with my gun…I know They would rather die.I would rather let them.
