Colorado ––(Ammoland.com)- The gun-grabbers are going for broke, doing everything they can to “cash in” on the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

Late last week, Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid — who received almost $5,000 from the NRA in 2010 — sought a new way to crush our Second Amendment rights.

Reid was moments away from using the so-called “nuclear option” to break Senate rules to gut the filibuster.

But he pulled back and delayed the vote.

As you may know, the Senate filibuster is a vital component of our constitutional republic that protects minority rights.

When a Senator “filibusters” a piece of legislation, current Senate rules say that if 60 out of 100 Senators vote to invoke “cloture,” they can end a filibuster.

For example, the use of the filibuster by pro-gunners in the U.S. Senate stopped the renewal of the so-called “Assault Weapons” Ban in 2005.

More recently, Senator Rand Paul used the filibuster to slow down and shine a light on dangerous anti-gun owner provisions within the Patriot Act.

So it’s no surprise Harry Reid is doing everything in his power to prevent pro-gun champions like Senator Paul from using the filibuster to slow down and stop anti-gun bills gun owners are staring down in the coming weeks.

Reid is chomping at the bit to break Senate rules and gut the filibuster by using the “nuclear option.”

According to Senate rules, it takes 67 votes to change them. The “nuclear option” Reid is threatening to use would allow him to change Senate rules with just 51 votes!

Think back to when you were a kid: Harry Reid is the bully on the playground or ball field shamelessly breaking the rules to fit his agenda.

My sources on Capitol Hill tell me Reid has rescheduled using the “nuclear option” for January 22 — when the Senate is back in session — and he’s only one or two votes shy of the number he needs to gut the filibuster.

If he gets the few votes he needs to succeed, he’ll have a clear path to pass virtually any restriction on our right to keep and bear arms, including . . .

. . . Dianne Feinstein’s so-called “Assault Weapons” Ban, magazine bans, intrusive background and fingerprint checks for “grandfathered” firearms passed down through millions of American families, among other bills that would gut our rights.

That’s why it’s vital you crank up the pressure on Capitol Hill RIGHT NOW!

Please Fax, call or email to your U.S. Senators and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell demanding they fight Reid’s scheme to gut the filibuster.

If the filibuster is gutted, Harry Reid and his anti-gun gang in Washington, D.C. will have free reign to pass gun control with little opposition.

That’s why it’s so important you take action today to protect the Senate filibuster.

Thanks, in advance, for taking action.

For Freedom,
Dudley Brown
Executive Vice President

Granted, we don't want the Senate to break 200+ years of precedent and abolish the filibuster. But, it takes successful votes in both houses to pass a law. And it is extremely unlikely that Feinstein's bill or other drastic gun bans would pass in the house.
