Paul if you’ve ever handled nuclear materials or passed science class in the 9th grade you would know that without proper protective equipment you would die within about 5 minutes to an hour from being near the nuclear material. Most nuclear weapons whether EMPGD (ElectroMagnetic Pulse Generating Device) MIRV (Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicle) or Atom bomb use uranium and plutonium which realese alpha rays which are 20 times more powerful than gamma rays which com from ytterbium which is used in CAT ( Computed Assisted Tomography) machines. So to be strait forward you’re an idiot. why do we need fast cars there are more automobile deaths than firearms deaths.

Bill Baker: Citizens owning nukes is “silly” for reasons you can’t begin to explain, but citizens owning assault rifles (another tool made expressly for making war) is not silly, also for reasons you can’t explain. Cheers for making my point for me. From now on, you should simply screech that you want me banned, because replying to my comment really turned out to be self-defeating. Besides, most right-wing sites are very protective of their readers and realize they need to ban those with different opinions, or else the right-wingers will become agitated and confused and not know what to do. So, there’s probably a victory in your future on this count.

Harvey Meltzer: I too long for simpler times from the past. I remember riding horses and motorcycles on just about any undeveloped land. However, as the population increases and becomes more diverse (and at times, crazy), restrictions get applied. Now I’m glad that the undeveloped lot near our house doesn’t have 50 dirtbike riders in it every day, and you would be too. And if you’re honest with yourself, you’re also glad that the NY subway is not populated with rifle-wielding people off the street.

Paul when I was A kid in NYC,Carring a rifle on the subway was looked at the same as a trumpet. In High School I was on a shooting team.Even back then there was utter violence in the movies. Paul is obviously a troll, should be site admin just ban him. It’s obviously a bait tactic to make you look stupid arguing in favor of civilian nuclear weapons. Paul: No one is going to address that issue as you are an obvious liberal fool, and I will never read your responses or respond to you again. We need not argue to make you look silly, as the mere idea of nuclear weapons in civilian hands is silly in the first place. Why not Anti-matter bombs, or neutron bombs, or civilian bat-bombs like we developed in world war II (look em up). All of those would already be covered under the 1934 act.
Now for those of us that can read, thank god Illinois seems to be failing and we seem to be winning this one. We need to keep this up and be vigilant for many years to come, as now that they have shown their hand, Feinstein will just stick it into an Amendment to a Farm Bill next year if she can’t get it in this year. Keep up the calls to Senator’s and Rep’s, teach your kids that they too should also be vigilant on this.

There are no laws against a semi auto m14 and I can afford one of those. So now the guberment wants to make laws against the m14 and make it to expensive to own one. You need to wake up son. OK, so here’s what we’ve learned: 1) Despite the hyperbolic article, this is not a blanket gun ban. 2) Restrictions on assault weapons do not constitute “disarming of Americans” anymore than restrictions against personal ownership of nuclear weapons. 3) Nobody here can explain why a nuke ban is acceptable and an assault weapon ban is not. 4) Your inability to address my arguments requires that you call me silly names to make yourselves feel better.

Illinois view is enact a law that will take 5-10 years to traverse the justice system while “protecting” the citizens. When the courts determine, again, that Illinois is violating the 2nd Admendment, Illinois Legislature will get another 180 days to develop another law that will delay gun rights to Illinois citizens.

An Illinois Senate committee passes through strict gun restrictions, that go against the constitutional grain of all federal rulings on the topic. The public health committee voted to go ahead with legislation that is intended to ban all semi-automatic rifles, AND pistols.

As a Wisconsin resident I have a comment and a question about this legislation.

First, the city of Chicago has been made a total fool because of the failure of their draconian gun restricting laws to reduce the murder rate. As is typical of any legislature if current law fails to correct the problem pass more legislation. I travel into Chicago only when absolutely necessary.

How will this legislation affect someone traveling through IL carrying anyone of these restricted firearm? It seems to me this would be a violation of the commerce clause by setting up an inter state barrier to regulated commerce.

In the case of the illinois law, Paul may be right, especially considering they just lost a federal case that requires them now to adopt some kind of concealed carry legislation within six months. Unfortunately, I’m much more concerned with the Feds, as Illinois has done lots of whacky gun laws over the years, it is Feinstein and her whackos that concern me. Yes, I believe what they want is unconstitutional, unfortunately, I’m more than a little tired of saying “I didn’t see this coming.” when something like this passes into law.
The other thing is that too many times lately we lose the fight if we “wait and see.” We do need to get active, make calls, write letters etc. You can smell the fear in the air that something is coming, as every gun dealer or private sale of a gun in my area is sold out before you can try to be first caller.
