Weston, CT Gun Ban Proposal

Groton, CT –-(Ammoland.com)- The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (The states largest grass roots gun rights group) is speaking out on a proposal put forth from the Town of Weston’s, Board of Selectmen, to ban the ownership of many popular types of firearms, including rifles, shotguns, handguns, long bows, cross bows, air guns and sling shot type devices, unless a “Permit for Ownership” is obtained from the Chief of Police.

This proposal would give the Chief of Police sole discretion to deny any person a “Permit for Ownership” without cause.

CCDL President Scott Wilson addressed this matter with the following statement: “The town of Weston is claiming to have powers that far exceed the constitution’s of both the state of Connecticut, and the U.S. Constitution. Law abiding citizens that choose to exercise their rights are now being disenfranchised from owning firearms and other shooting devices.

This is but another knee jerk and opportunistic excuse for law makers to punish Law Abiding citizens, and impose more gun control. An ordinance of this type, that becomes municipal code, will more than likely be met by lawsuits.

Hopefully the town of Weston will drop this proposal altogether and avoid unnecessary litigation”.

About the CCDL:
The Connecticut Citizens Defense League was formed in 2009 by a small group of concerned citizens as a non-partisan organization to advocate second amendment rights in the state of Connecticut. Since their founding, the group has grown to over 2,700 members from all walks of life. Thanks to this large support base across the state the CCDL has become a fixture of the capitol, well recognized by all committees that regularly see firearms related bills as well as the state Board of Firearms Permit Examiners. As the go-to organization in the state they are consulted regularly by lawmakers who have questions and concerns about pending legislation or existing laws.

I live in Weston, I've never held a gun in my life and have no interest…but this scares me. Taking guns away from law abiding citizens is clearly not the answer! I'm surrounded by knee-jerk idiots!

By the description of a rifle firing a single projectile from a fixed metallic cartridge and shotgun firing either a number of ball shot or a single projectile from a fixed shotgun shell; then a flintlock or caplock rifle or shotgun are not defined as rifles or shotguns since they do not use metallic cartridges or shotgun shells. I would not argue with someone with a 69 caliber flintlock or a 10 gage flintlock fowler loaded with number 4 shot pointed at me.

This is, I believe, in direct violation of Connecticut State Law concerning State Pre-emption for possession and carry.

Check it out for yourselves.
