Washington had his faults as a commander, but he held an army together when it should have faded away and for that fact alone he should be admired...this army later was trained to fight and beat the British with their own tactics. He also could have declared himself King, as some wanted. He chose instead to serve the new republic, another reason he is to admired. In a trying time we had, Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Adams, Hancock, etc. other countries get Dear Leaders, Presidents for Life and Furhers. God bless G. Washington.

I don't share Chuck's love for George. He was the 1st president to call the troops out on the American people. He had a slave run whisky distillery that could not compete with the moonshiners in the Alleghenies so he used his position to prop up his business interests. He was a land speculator who cheated thousands of settlers out of their land.
As a general he was incompetent and his "leadership" stretched out the length of the war. It took the Massachusetts militia with the help of Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys and those cannons they captured at Fort Ticonderoga a year to force the redcoats out of New England.
Thank God for Lafayette and the French and thank the militia of the various states with which old pock faced George wouldn't have looked so good!
