All of these terms get thrown around due to a few whack jobs in the hills advocating the overthrow of the government. I myself have used these terms at one point on myself, prepper or survivalist, but had to shy away from it as it quickly became derogatory in the media just like assault rifle. Being prepared and having food, water and ammo in your cellar does not make you a whack job, and when the SHTF suddenly we will be popular.
