Biloxi, Mississippi — ( – Is wearing body armor a sign of paranoia or preparedness?  This week we’ll consider armor option for the citizen, to include the how, why, what and when.  Paul gives a recommended reading assignment for “Guns Across the Border.” by Mike Detty.

During the second hour of the show we’ll consider the differences between training and practice and just what those are.   We’ll again go to the SOTG mailbag for a question about being armed in a marine environment.  Paul takes some time to discuss rust-resistant firearms and also what you can do to keep your guns rust free.

About the Host


Paul G. Markel has worn many hats during his lifetime.  He has been a U.S. Marine, Police Officer, Professional Bodyguard, and Small Arms and Tactics Instructor.  Mr. Markel has been writing professionally for law enforcement and firearms periodicals for nearly twenty years with hundreds and hundreds of articles in print.   Paul is a regular guest on nationally syndicated radio talk shows and subject matter expert in firearms training and use of force.

Mr. Markel has been teaching safe and effective firearms handling to students young and old for decades and has worked actively with the 4H Shooting Sports program.  Paul holds numerous instructor certifications in multiple disciplines; nonetheless, he is and will remain a dedicated Student of the Gun.

      You should “train like you’re going to fight”. That means, if you plan on wearing body armor when the SHTF, you should practice “shoot, move, and communicate” with your body armor on. It does add weight and bulk which you should be used to when the time comes.
