Freedompalooza will Register Voters, Push-back Against Anti-Second Amendment Politicians.
Atmont, NY - -(Ammoland.com)- In January this year, the Cuomo gun laws passed the State Legislature in a New York heartbeat – with no meaningful floor debate, and in the Senate with no debate at all. Our rights were swept away for political expediency and cheap headlines.
It’s now time for the 5 million gun owners in New York to wake up to the new reality — Andrew Cuomo is the most anti-Second Amendment, anti-freedom Governor in the United States, and he has allies in the Legislature who want to effectively ban private ownership of guns in New York.
New York is now the most anti-Second Amendment state in the country, which is no small irony considering the number of battles fought on our soil during the American Revolution to protect the freedoms now embodied in the Bill of Rights.
Andrew Cuomo’s SAFE Act and other anti-Second Amendment legislation has nothing to do with preventing crime or tragedy -- it is a political attack by the Government Class against private citizens who believe in what the Second Amendment was written to protect – the individual liberties our Country was founded upon.
In response to this unrelenting attack on our rights, supporters of the Second Amendment, led by the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, SCOPE, hunting, and outdoor sports groups across the State have banded together to launch the New York Freedom Coalition, a not-for- profit group focused on voter registration, education, and get-out-the-vote efforts for the 2014 elections. As a first fundraising event, they are hosting “New York’s Freedompalooza: First Shot for Liberty”, a country music concert and festival celebrating the freedoms we have as Americans. Freedompalooza will be held Saturday, August 24 at the Altamont Fairgrounds, outside Albany.
The New York Freedom Coalition is a first-ever organization of its kind in New York State, however it is necessary. The Governor’s glib dismissal of the Second Amendment and demagoguery while forcing the SAFE Act through the Legislature is a harbinger of things to come. He has publicly suggested that mass firearms confiscation is a reasonable thing for government to do, and over 30 additional anti-Second Amendment Bills in the hopper in Albany would require gun owners to buy unaffordable liability insurance, submit to extensive additional background checks, and prove a specific need to own a firearm.
Members of the State Legislature are already talking about a new round of anti-gun laws for 2014. Here is what Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel (who is a stalwart supporter of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, widely regarded as the most corrupt Albany power broker in modern times) said this month in the Huffington Post:
I sponsor microstamping legislation in the Assembly because criminals get away with murder as they fire anonymous bullets…
While we have won an important victory for gun control in Albany, there is still so much more to do to prevent the tragedies associated with gun violence. With so many forces opposing common sense gun regulations, it will take every conscientious citizen and elected official to enact sensible policies. Gun control must be a litmus test issue, especially in New York City.
Voter registration, education and get-out-the-vote efforts are essential to protect our Second Amendment rights. New York’s Freedompalooza: First Shot for Liberty, on August 24 at the Altamont Fairgrounds outside Albany, is a first step toward pushing back against the radical politics of Andrew Cuomo and Michelle Schimel .
