NEWINGTON, N.H. –-(Ammoland.com)- SIG SAUER will provide its new P227 pistol to the Indiana State Police, the first law enforcement agency to select the double-stack .45-caliber handgun.

Introduced earlier this year, the P227 offers the ergonomics and familiar controls of the classic SIG P226 but chambered for the .45 Auto cartridge. After an exhaustive period of testing and evaluation of major pistol manufacturers, the Indiana State Police selected the P227 as its new duty pistol.

“Based on the number of requests from agencies, we knew the P227 was going to be popular with law enforcement,” said Gary Wade, SIG SAUER Vice President of Law Enforcement, Government, and Military Sales. “ISP’s rigorous testing proved once again that SIG SAUER is the only choice when it comes to reliable, dependable duty weapons.”

In 2012, the Indiana State Police selected the SIGM400™ rifle as its issue long arm for the Special Weapons Assault Team (SWAT). The department will receive 1,400 P227s beginning December 2013.

“Reliability and ease of function are must haves in a law enforcement sidearm,” said Doug Carter, Superintendent of the Indiana State Police. “The P227 has both qualities and will serve our needs for many years.”

“Special Weapons Assault Team”

Please tell me that is a mistake. Whom are the ISP assaulting? I thought police were supposed to prevent and investigate crimes…not commit them. Assault with a deadly weapon is a serious crime!
