NEWINGTON, N.H. –-(Ammoland.com)- SIG SAUER team captain Max Michel knocked off the best Open Division shooters in the nation and brought home the title at the United States Practical Shooting Association’s Open National Championship Sept 27-29 in St. George, Utah.

This marks the seventh time Michel has won the national title, and the win comes after three days of close competition. An already tight Open Division race was made even closer after one of Michel’s best stages was removed from the match after another squad protested the design. In the end, the match was decided by less than two percentage points, or roughly 45 match points, over the runner up.

“This match was as much a test of mental strength as it was speed and accuracy,” Michel said. “Twenty-two stages over three days is a pretty taxing match, but I knew if I held up my equipment would as well.”

Using his SIG SAUER custom race gun, Michel claimed nine stage wins outright, and was rarely out of the top five on any stage.

“Max’s consistency and competitive fire is just such a great fit for SIG SAUER,” said Jarrod McDevitt, SIG SAUER Rifle and Competitive Shooting Program Manager. “We’re proud to be the choice of a champion like Max.”

With the win, Michel locks down a spot on Team USA for the next World Shoot, where the Open Team will defend their world title. This victory also makes Michel the first person to win the Pro-Am, the Steel Challenge and the USPSA Nationals in the same year.
