California Department Of Fish And Game

California --(Ammoland.com)- The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and California Game Wardens Foundation have teamed up to offer a youth essay contest.

“A vital part of our hunter education program is passing on the tradition of sportsmanship and ethical behavior,” said CDFW Hunter Education Program Administrator Captain Roy Griffith.

“With that, the California Game Wardens Foundation wanted to recognize one of the 21,000 students who pass through our program each year with a lifetime California hunting license, valued at more than $600.”

Junior hunting license holders or youths under 16 who have valid 2013 hunter education certificate are eligible. To enter, contestants need to submit an essay, 500 words or less, on what “Passing on the Tradition” of hunting means to them. Applicants are encouraged to write about conservation, sportsmanship and ethics.

AWARD CEREMONY: The grand prize will be awarded during a special ceremony Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at ISE Sacramento’s Adventure Theater stage (Hall A).

APPLYING: Your essay must include name, date of birth, and contact number with the essay. All entries must be received on or before Friday, Dec. 20, 2013.

Submit essays to:
Lieutenant John Nores
P.O. Box #1

ESSAY JUDGING: Essays will be reviewed and scored by CDFW Wildlife Officers – some who are stars National Geographic’s Wild Justice television program – and other CDFW representatives.
