Federal Public Land Map

Montana - -( Most of us realize that the Federal Government has claimed ownership of large portions of real estate across this land.

However, few of us probably realize what a stranglehold the Feds have on many states west of the Mississippi River. The map above will quickly illustrate my point

If you live out west, this map can seem somewhat depressing. However, there is good news. Most of the states that you see not covered in red were successful in kicking the Feds out and reclaiming their land, while also reclaiming the resources contained therein. In the case of the western states, the resources are estimated to be worth $150 trillion dollars.

The legal precedent is there, and some legislators are taking action. One of the people out front in the fight to reclaim the land belonging to the states is Representative Ken Ivory of Utah. Ken came to Kalispell, Montana last week to enlighten us on what he is doing, and what we need to do, to wrestle back control of our own land.

I have included a link to Ken’s presentation below.

In Article 1 Section 8, the federal constitution requires that states must consent when the federal government purchases land within its borders. In my own state, a statute gives the federal government blanket permission.

Because some of these areas lack clear markings, it is possible for citizens to unintentionally find themselves in violation of federal law or regulation and subject to arrest, fine or confiscation of items like legally carried firearms.

It it high time that states repeal blanket consent laws and 1) require the federal government to apply for a permit for each parcel of land it seeks; 2) that such permits should carry an appropriate filing fee, say $250,000 to cover the costs of processing the application; 3) that the federal government must provide the state with a complete inventory of all applicable real estate holdings it owns, rent or leases within the state.

    2. Tell the native americans about taking back our land. They should get a good laugh about that.

    3. This is a scheme to get control of the land so corporations can mine, drill and run the keystone pipeline. It’s all about profits. ALEC is behind this ‘reclaim our land’ movement and playing on anti government sentiment to get it done. Don’t be fooled.
