Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)-  A while back a ten foot pipe that carried the water supply for Boston, Massachusetts and two dozen suburbs broke.

There was still some water flowing into the city but, it was unsafe to drink. A boil order went out, that advised the public they needed to boil any water they planned to drink or cook with. There was a run on bottled water, in the greater Boston area.

It was not as bad as the public thought. Water was still coming out of the pipes. You could still flush a toilet or water the house plants; you just needed to factor in safety into the drinking part.

You would be surprised how many homes do not even have a tea kettle that you could quickly boil some water. I saw one person being interviewed on TV and he was not happy. He did not want to drink hot water after he boiled some for safety. He stated he never drinks hot water. At first I thought it was a joke, but no. The idea that this person somehow could not grasp, that you poured the boiled water into containers and let the liquid cool to a reasonable drinking temperature before drinking was missing. We have gotten so use to putting our coffee mug into the microwave to heat up the water.

In West Virginia there are 300,000 people without water because of a toxic chemical spill that has polluted the water supply for multiple communities in that state. You cannot do anything with the water except flush your toilet. There is no boiling this water to make it safe. These people have to drive 50-100 miles out of their home area to find water in bulk—how do you get it back home?

Now if you were a farmer or rancher and you needed water you would get into your manly pick up truck with a stock tank in the back and drive until you fine someplace that has clean drinking water. Then you bring it home and get on with life.

But what if you are not so manly? What if you drive a sub-compact car and you don’t even own a stock tank? I have found an answer to your water hauling problems. Watersafe (www.mywatersafe.com) out of Fort Lauderdale, Fl has solved this issue for you.

They make a number of products you can store water in for that next emergency. There is a 65 gallon bag you can put in your bathtub or a small five gallon water bag ( https://tiny.cc/nd6iby ) you can place in your kitchen sink. Both have hand pumps you use to get the water out and you back into action. However what if you have to go “out there” to bring safe water back to your home. Watersafe has a 55 gallon heavy duty stand alone model that is a double walled water bag. It is 60 inches by 38 and lays flat.

I took one of these bags and placed it in the back seat of the Colonel’s Toyota Corolla to see if it would fit and if you could really go for water in this situation. The bag laid flat on the back seat and part of it hung down the front of the seat. In pre-planning to actually use the bag in a small car I would cut a piece of plywood a little wider than the back seat to create more solid surface for the bag, but this plan will work.

If you have a plastic tarp handy lay it out first and then put the water bag on the back seat. I was sure the Colonel did not want me to accidentally flood out her car.

Once you drive “out there” for water you still have to drain the water into small containers you can carry into the house. The above five gallon stand alone container will work. If you really pre-plan this out, you buy two of the 55 gallon bags and after the search for, and transfer of, safe water back to your home you drain the 55 gallon bag in you back seat down into a second 55 gallon on the floor of your garage where you can close the door and secure your “precious” hard fought for water supply.

If you acquire one or more these bags have a couple of hard sided five gallon water cans or 5 gallon buckets & lids ( https://tiny.cc/8f6iby ) on hand, also some water purifying chemicals ( https://tiny.cc/nh6iby ). Don’t assume that water you drove 50 miles to get is safe. Remember you only have three hours without shelter, three days without water and three weeks without food.

After that you are just a statistic. I just heard that 2013 was the driest year on record in the western part of the US. Water or the lack there of, will only get worse in your life time. Are you prepared to store bulk water?

If you don’t have a teakettle, you can boil water in any large pan or pot.

Emergency Essentials has stack-able 160 gallon barrels. So less than a pallet sized footprint in your garage gives you 320 gallons of emergency water. Cheaper when we bought them but not cheap then. My hope is that they we wasted our money on the purchase. My fear is that we didn’t. Filling a barrel or the bathtub is only guaranteed before the emergency.

We had a water problem like this last year and the local woman wrote to the paper complaining that she had to boil the water before she could boil her noodles, etc.

So yes, there really are some people out there that are not too bright!
