West Virginia –-(Ammoland.com)- Lobby Day: This year’s Lobby Day was a great success.

We had roughly 130-150 people turn out (it was difficult to count) and we were able to pack the galleries of both houses.

Those of us who were there have absolutely no doubt that we have the legislature’s attention. Senator Dave Sypolt’s (R-Preston) introduction of our group in the Senate was one of the best I’ve ever heard. In the house, individual delegates were welcoming WVCDL members from their own counties as well as a standing greeting for the group as a whole.

While watching the house, they passed HB4309 Phillips (D-Logan) with Hartman, Eldridge, Marcum, White, Barker, Tomblin, Craig, Sponaugle, Diserio, and Moore as cosponsors. This is a capitol complex parking-lot bill, which if it passes the senate, will allow CHL holders to leave their firearms locked in their cars on the capitol complex.

A special note should be made for Delegate Howell (R-Mineral) who has repeatedly introduced a similar bill for several years.

For those of you who came out, thank you for your service to your state and your fellow West Virginians. For those of you who did not make it, to points:

  • 1. You missed a GREAT time.
  • 2. Remember, if we can get 1000 people to lobby day, the following year, we WILL go constitutional carry. Start planning now for next year.

Numerous photos showing the size of the group and our activities throughout the day have been posted to the Facebook group. So if you haven’t joined it, by all means do. We have photographic evidence of the great day had by all.

Cabelas / Lobby Day
We would like to extend a special thanks to Cabelas in Charleston. They allowed us to run a two-day membership drive in their store on the run-up to lobby day, and it was an astounding success.

Bills in Senate Judiciary
Please pay close attention to your email and the WVCDL facebook group over the coming days. Deadlines for bill movement are approaching, and we may have to send out a call for activism. We may need to do more than that. The WVCDL may need to take to the airwaves and put your dues to use running radio ads to help dislodge our bills from the Judiciary committee. SB317 (full, statewide preemption) and SB198 (CHL privacy) are both currently waiting in Senate Judiciary.

We are not saying to call just yet. But that may be coming. Please stay tuned.

Food for Thought
(This will be a running footnote for a while)

I have personal friends in Colorado who five years ago, would never have believed draconian gun bans could ever happen to them. Think about that.
