USA – -(Ammoland.com)- Gun Control: In a massive display of civil disobedience, tens of thousands of Connecticut state residents have refused to register what the left calls assault weapons, instantly making them criminals guilty of a felony.

The legacy of the Connecticut residents who used their privately owned firearms to help overthrow the tyrannical colonial rule of King George III, who probably considered their muskets the military-style assault weapon of the day, apparently lives on.

Connecticuters in the tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands have quietly refused to comply with a law, adopted after the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, requiring them to register what gun-control advocates consider assault weapons by the end of 2013.

As the Hartford Courant reports, as of Dec. 31 some 47,916 applications for assault weapons certificates had been received by state police. By some estimates, this represented as little as 15% of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents.

Estimates by people in the industry, including the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation, place the number as high as 350,000.

As columnist Dan Haar notes in the Courant, this means that “as of Jan. 1, Connecticut has very likely created tens of thousands of newly minted criminals — perhaps 100,000 people, almost certainly at least 20,000 — who have broken no other laws. By owning unregistered guns defined as assault weapons, all of them are committing Class D felonies.”

The AR-15 is among those that must be registered, and represents 50% to 60% of all U.S. rifle sales in recent years, federal figures show. It was the weapon used by Adam Lanza in the Newtown, Conn., shooting and by James Holmes to kill 12 people and wound 58 in a crowded movie theater in Aurora, Colo.

Many such weapons are classified as military-style assault weapons simply on the basis of their “scary” (at least to liberals) appearance.

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California has been pushing legislation to re-introduce the ineffective 1994 ban on assault weapons that expired in 2004 with no impact on the crime rate.

Feinstein’s legislation would outlaw more than 150 types of weapons, from rifles to pistols to shotguns. These include the Streetsweeper and Striker 12, which, again, have frightening appearances yet chamber the same 12-gauge shells that are used to hunt birds.

While used in a number of high-profile mass shootings, the AR-15 is also the preferred rifle of homeowners, hunters and sport shooters. It has become popular among women, who find it easy to carry and handle, both for sport and self-defense.

Leo Smith:What makes you think Ct. and NY. will fall? Even so do you think the other states will stand back and watch?Assuming you mean something less than peaceful.

I’m elated Connecticut residents are refusing to
comply to these deceitful odious anti-gun “LBJ/KGB” type laws! It’s only unfortunate
massive civil disobedience nationwide wasn’t
staged back in the 1960’s against then Lyndon
B. Johnson (our worst president), the Earl
Warren Supreme Court, crooked Congressmen, the
1968 Federal Gun Control Act, and other socialist treason against our republic! This would have set a precedent to date: “Leave us
the hell alone!”

Actually the assault weapon ban expiration did have an effect on the crime rate it went down when the ban expired. I hope this leads to a court challenge rather than people getting shot.

Let Connecticut fall, along with its left-wing liberal Commie bastards. Those who support the US Constitution and its Amendments will be welcomed with open arms in non-occupied states like Texas.

Paul

They are still blaming a rifle that was locked in the trunk of a car. Adam Lanza Had a pair of pistols that he used in that shooting All the 223 casings were outside not inside, they also failed to mention that there were probably more than one in that case. The only thing that registering your guns is going to do is set things up for that one thing that Frankenstein and the rest of the liberals want, and that is gun confiscation.

John

The nexus of the “anti-gun” movement ironically seems to be states that were part of the group that rose up against British tyranny. If not for all the infrastructure I’d say give them back to England.

Leo Smith

Connecticut will be the first state to fall. New York will follow shortly after. Anybody who is willing to Dismantle our constitution deserves no life in these United States.

Eventually…Expect other left leaning states to follow suit!..The Commies (police) are coming to get our guns!

Many of these AR-15 gun owners were placed on a list without them knowing. The lists were kept by police chiefs and the info was obtained from cops, retired cops, or cop-collaborators who worked the gun counters at retail stores.

ATF requires 10 year records.

John

If Connecticut officials utilize data from “background checks” to enforce the edict, it will prove the NRA was correct all along. “Background checks” are the first step toward gun confiscation!
