Right-To-Carry Permit Holder Fells Robber Detroit, Mich

USA --(Ammoland.com)- Somewhere, everyday in the USA, 2100+ people use a gun for self defense, to stop a crime or save the lives of themselves or their family.

“We believe that the American public deserve to understand that on the average, guns save 2,191 lives and are used to thwart crimes every day,” says Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation

Most times you won’t see these tales on the news as it does not fit the main stream media’s story line of “Guns and Gun Owners are Bad“.

This is just one of those stories;

A woman was heading inside after pulling her car into the garage at her Detroit, Mich. home when a man armed with a gun attempted to rob her. In response, the resident, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew a gun and shot the attacker, killing him.

The shooting marked the third recorded incident in a week in which armed Detroit residents defended themselves from criminal attack.

This string of defensive gun uses follows a late-January statement by Detroit Police Chief James Craig, in which the he noted, “I did, in fact, say that good Americans, good Detroiters, if responsible, could get CPLs, and that it could — emphasis on the word ‘could’ — be a deterrent to violent crime. I said that because of my experience in four cities, having seen good Americans and good Detroiters that have CCWs, and what effect it has had on deterring violent crime.”

    1. Where did you get the stats regarding 2100 people a day defending themselves with a firearm? I want to be able to quote that and back it up!!

    2. That link doesn’t work – try this one:
      http://scholarlycommons.law.northwestern.edu/jclc/vol87/iss4/5/
      The paper referenced uses 17 pages to repudiate a Gary Kleck/Marc Gertz paper from 1995 on the subject. At no place in the paper can I find the figure of 2100 incidents/day of civilian personal defense with a firearm. Closest I can come is with a stat of 600,000 incidents/year, leaving a result of ~1644 incidents/day (bottom of p. 8 of the article). Let me state here that I am not and have never been a statistical analyst, so – if the 2100 figure is in the article, I missed it!

    3. To quote the Waco Kid from “Blazing Saddles”:

      “I love a story with a happy ending”.

      whaddacrock: Unlike the anti-firearms Freedom types, WE can PROVE that “if it saves just ONE life”, it is a great benefit to society.

    4. To Whaddacrock, um, so 1644 +/- lives saved per day through defensive gun use (most w/o shots fired) is an incidental non-factor… Um, OK. Pretty sure the families of those 1644 will disagree.
