NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- Sig Sauer has filed a civil lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for wrongfully classifying a muzzle brake designed to reduce recoil as a silencer.

Sig alleges that since silencers are “subject to burdensome legal requirements,” ATF is subjecting the company to economic loss. In short, there is no market for a non-silencing silencer.

ATF Director B. Todd Jones is named as defendant in the suit and has 21 days, after being served, to respond to the civil action.

Sig explains it designed the muzzle brake to reduce recoil and muzzle rise, so it is not subject to regulation under the federal Gun Control Act.

There is no such thing as bury the government in lawsuits. They have relatively “unlimited” funds due to their unlimited power to tax you.

Some great ideas here. Just think of the possibilities if there were 100 or 200 law suits filed, simultaneously, against ATF! Wouldn’t necessarily have to be for the same thing, just bury them in suits and paperwork for years. Every time they make a ruling, sue them.

Please, please gun companies…….more of you need to line up and sue the ATF. Maybe this will stop their jackbooting, or at least slow them down. Oh and ammo companies you should sue them too for the latest travesty with 5.45 Russian surplus.

My wife’s family is from Germany and several of her cousins are shooters there. When they have visited and I have taken them shooting here they are amazed that we do not allow suppressors in nj. in Germany especially outside using a suppressor is considered being a good neighbor.

A manufacturer spent money improving their product, now even more money is being spent on lawyers defending that product. That surely reduces profitability. Isn’t that all part of the anti-gun agenda?

I pledge allegiance to the ATF, & to the repression for which it stands. Stop supporting the govt, people. Being patriotic, paying taxes, & clinging to the failed constitution are only helping your oppressors. Do you want liberty? Turn your back on the govt. “The ostensible supporters of the Constitution, like the ostensible supporters of most other governments, are made up of three classes: 1. Knaves, a numerous and active class, who see in the government an instrument which they can use for their own aggrandizement or wealth. 2. Dupes — a large class, no doubt — each of whom,… Read more »

We have some of the stupiest people in this country steering the helm of the ship…Anyone with even the slightest amount of gun savy can see that what is on the end of this firearm is not a silencer…Which reminds me about 5 years ago when the Director of US Customs in NYC stopped the importation of AR looking soft air guns into the Unied States because he said they could be converted into actual firing weapons.. Although we know this to be utter nonsense and an impossibility…This Top Dog was wanting to have these classified as Illegal “Weapons of… Read more »

Why did the ATF classify this as a silencer? Does this muzzle device suppress noise? Would have thought this information would be provided in the article.
