Washington, DC -(Ammoland.com)- The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) seeks a Midwestern States Coordinator to co-manage the state sportsmen’s caucus effort organized under the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) and the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC) programs for the Midwestern Region of the United States.
This position reports to the Midwestern States Director and CSF Vice President and serves as the lead contact for seven assigned state and regional sportsmen’s caucuses, state agencies, industry partners and non-governmental organizations; and is responsible for organizing and tracking pertinent legislation and regulatory rule-making, event planning, and fundraising assistance.
Based on the assigned region, the successful candidate will serve as an interface with existing regional state legislative caucuses and respective members of the GSC by providing counsel, tracking and disseminating information regarding legislation and caucus infrastructure.
The Midwestern States Coordinator will work to serve as a point of contact for states establishing a caucus and assist with the formation and development of state advisory councils in the assigned region.
Additionally, the selected candidate will be required to work on U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service activities of interest to sportsmen and women, as well as with invasive species concerns and mitigation efforts with various state and federal agencies.
Working alongside CSF‘s Midwestern States Director, Federal Policy Team, and other members of the sportsmen’s community, the individual selected for the position will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating and submitting formal comments on federal land management policies, and efforts to address new and expanding threats of invasive species in his or her assigned region.
The Midwestern States Coordinator will be required to spend six to twelve months working in CSF’s Washington, DC headquarters subsequent to final selection for the position. Following this time, the Midwestern States Coordinator will be expected to relocate to an upper Midwest state where he or she will work remotely.
The candidate selected for the position will be required to work independently consistent with CSF personnel guidelines and must demonstrate the ability to self-motivate on a daily basis without the level of direct supervision found in a typical office environment.
Midwestern States Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Analyze and track state legislation of interest to sportsmen.
- Serve as point of contact for inquiries from legislators/conservation organizations interested in establishing or further developing a state sportsmen’s caucus.
- Serve as a clearinghouse for information relevant to state sportsmen’s caucus legislators and governors’ offices about sportsmen’s issues, including pertinent federal regulatory/legislative issues.
- Liaise and provide consul to the state sportsmen’s caucuses in Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin
- Assist with events/event planning including individual state caucus events and the NASC mid-year and annual meetings.
- Represent CSF at state caucus functions, meetings, and events.
- Develop content for an electronic newsletter for state issues and state caucus activity.
- Facilitate and serve as a network between partners, state agencies, federal caucus, state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses, and Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus members.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree. Candidates with degrees in wildlife biology, fisheries biology, conservation biology or natural resource management preferred.
- Knowledge of the legislative process and experience working with state legislatures, Congress and / or governmental agencies.
- Familiarity with federal land management and fish and wildlife management policies, agencies and processes.
- Supporter of hunting, fishing, trapping, recreational shooting and professional wildlife management.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and process objectives without supervision.
- Willingness to travel.
- Willingness to relocate to Washington, DC for six to twelve months prior to working remotely in the Midwest.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
