Covington VA –-(Ammoland.com)- Based on the headlines in the press, you’d swear that the Chipolte restaurant chain is now banning guns on their premises.

Lazy, biased reporting does not change the facts, however.

Chipolte has simply taken the same road as Starbucks and Jack-in-the-Box: REQUESTING that gun owners do not carry in their establishments.

That is a night and day difference from banning guns. Clearly all they want is for the anti-gun group Moms Demand Action (MDM) to quit whining and go eat a burrito.

Based on their press release, it is clear that gun owners can continue to legally carry in their establishments – openly or concealed, same is with Starbucks and Jack-in-the-Box.

The MDM call it a victory in an effort to seem relevant, but I can’t quit yawning.

Chipotle asks customers not to bring firearms to stores

Fast food chain says it has brought in policy after military assault rifles were carried openly in Texas restaurant

An image tweeted by the gun control group Everytown, which called for Chipotle to banish guns from its stores.

The fast food chain Chipotle is asking customers not to bring firearms into its stores after it says gun rights advocates carried military-style assault rifles in one of its restaurants in Texas.

The Mexican food chain said “the display of firearms in our restaurants has now created an environment that is potentially intimidating or uncomfortable for many of our customers”.

The announcement came after a petition by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, which has called on other companies to ban firearms in their stores as well. The group said its petition was in reaction to “open-carry” gun activists appearing at a Dallas-area Chipotle restaurant over the weekend.

Many US states allow people to carry licensed guns in some way but some businesses exercise their right to ban firearms.

Last year Starbucks told customers that guns were no longer welcome in its cafes after it had to temporarily close a store in Newtown, Connecticut, to avoid a demonstration by gun rights advocates. The company said it shut down the store out of respect for the community where 20 schoolchildren and six educators were shot and killed.

The coffee chain stopped short of a ban, saying it did not want to put its workers in the position of having to ask people carrying guns to leave its stores.

A Chipotle spokesman did not immediately respond when asked whether the company’s request was an outright ban, or how it would respond if people continued to bring in firearms.

Chipotle noted in its statement that “there are strong arguments on both sides of this issue”. It said it hoped that customers who opposed carrying guns in public would agree that “it is the role of elected officials and the legislative process to set policy in this area”.

The gun control group Everytown, backed by the former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, launched a #BurritosNotBullets campaign on Twitter after pictures emerged of guns being carried in Chipotle. It celebrated the chain’s decision with a tweet on Monday.

Please people this could could be a divide and conquer strategy to divide gun rights people, and judging by the comments, it’s working. On the other hand since Jack in the Box announced their no guns policy, three of their stores have been robbed by armed robbers.

Dimwits like these two are poster children for the anti 2A campaign. Morons are our own worst enemies.
They may think they’re cool for the moment but its like sex without a condom…feels good for a few seconds but the aftermath will last a lifetime and beyond.

Greg

Why do I get the idea that these two are not responsible gun owners (among, probably, a long list of other things)? This would be the kind of show-off that would ruin my eating experience anywhere it happened.

Chuck

I have two problems with open carry. I don’t want to scare people and make them think I am about to rob the place or shoot them. When you carry in the open you give your element of surprise to the bad guy. He walks in, sees you standing there flat footed and knows he has to blow you away first thing. You have just died and made his job a hell of a lot easier. Just like in war, when you loose your element of surprise, you are 99% of the way from loosing the battle. Open carry is… Read more »

Yet another chain store that has now been put off limits to CCW holders. Keep up these half witted publicity stunts and before long we won’t be able to carry in any establishment. Wake up these foolish in your face publicity stunts are causing more harm than good.

Jim

In your face open carry may provide a momentary feeling of victory but will ultimately cost us the war. The display shown in the picture is a turn off to the public whose support we must win.

I love guns, but if I saw those two jackwagons in a restaurant I’d be uncomfortable, too. Those idiots just give ammunition to the gun-grabbers.

Boycotting chipotle is not a problem for me. Their food SUCKS anyway.

ScottM

I’m not sure how I would react if I saw those two rocket scientists bringing semi auto rifles into an establishment I was in.

I will continue to carry concealed and go about my business unhindered.
