USA – -(Ammoland.com)- New images of a Nazi u-boat submarine was captured by an underwater expedition led by Dr. Bob Ballard of Ocean Exploration Trust and published Thursday.

Ballard is known for being credited with discovering the wreck of the Titanic.

“Hitler brought the war to our doorstep shortly after they declared war on us,” Ballard said.

Tampa Bay Times reports:

“On July 30, 1942, a Coast Guard escort vessel destroyed the U-boat, U-166, after it attacked and sank the SS Robert E. Lee about 25 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi. The Lee, a freighter, was delivering hundreds of survivors of other U-boat attacks to New Orleans.

“Twenty-five passengers and crewmen aboard the ship were killed. Another 404 survived. The German submarine was sunk with no survivors. Its wreck is protected as a war grave for the 52 crewmen who died. Both vessels lie about 5,000 feet below the surface.“

“Most people don’t realize that during World War II, America really was under siege,” National World War II Museum curator Tom Czekanski told WWLTV.

Most people still don’t realize that since World War II, America has been under siege.

This story says this U-boat, U-166, is the ONLY U-boat sunk in the Gulf of Mexico. I don’t believe this is true. I think there could be as many as 3 German U-boats sunk in the Gulf. For sure there are several sunk along the East coast of America.

There is so much more we could learn about this had they provided the ID numbers of the U-Boat..there is a much more interesting story to tell and perhaps someone will write about it in the near future…

“Did Nazis lose the battle but win the war?”

What kind of question is this?
Is this from WWLTV? Tampa Bay Times? Channel 10?
Is this what passes for a type of news?
Or is this a lack of proofreading?

I wonder how many gun-grabbers ancestors were on board?
