NEWINGTON, N.H. –-(Ammoland.com)-  SIG SAUER is pleased to announce that the New Jersey State Police have selected the P229 Enhanced Elite in 9mm as its new duty pistol.

For the past 14 years, the New Jersey State Police have carried the P228 in 9mm. The decision to remain with SIG SAUER was based on the long track record of reliability, accuracy, and durability, as tested by troopers in the field.

The P229 Enhanced Elite maintains that legacy, but adds the one-piece enhanced ergonomic grip, which provides a better fit for a wider range of hands.

“We are pleased to continue to provide the duty pistol carried by the men and women of the New Jersey State Police, said Tom Jankiewicz, SIG SAUER Executive Director of Law Enforcement Sales.

“The agency has been a valued member of the SIG Law Enforcement community for over a decade. We look forward to another decade of service with their new P229s.”

The New Jersey State Police will take delivery of 2,800 P229 Enhanced Elite pistols.

Founded in 1921, the NJSP patrol is “committed to protect, preserve and safeguard the constitutional and civil rights of all citizens through impartial and courteous law enforcement with integrity and professionalism.”

What happened to the “old” NJSP 228 pistols???

I relocated from NJ to NM in 2000,to have a quieter lifestyle and a better climate to rely on. Shortly after my relocation, I noticed a huge difference in gun laws. IN New Mexico, assuming and hoodlums thinking twice you’re ot a felon, a 15 minute or less with the FBI will allow you to own the handgun of your choice and there’s no limit on the number you can purchase in the course of a year. Unlike New Jersey’s draconian laws that allow only two purchases per year along with a 90 day wait and the ok from the… Read more »

Like me move out of the peoples republic of NJ. ( ASAP ) Move across the bridge to Pa.and get a CCW but remember the peoples republic does not accept any CCW permits from any constitutional states.

I ended up moving from NJ because over the last 50 years I did not see things getting better, only worse. With the influx of more and more liberals moving in from NYC, the votes are not there. In my State we are on the offense with gun legislation. In NJ they are on the defense trying to minimize the damage each year. Never getting ahead, always a step back.

Can the average NJ Citizen carry a Sig or any other handgun? No! Until Sig and every other manufacturer stops supplying police in states that restrict the right of self defense to their own citizens things will never change. Let the police live by the same laws and rules as everyone else.

It’s not really the police, it’s the politicians that are in charge of the police. That and the higher ups. They’re just the scape goats because they’re the ones that have to enforce the law
That’s the reason why they’re called “Law Enforcement Officers”.
