Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Efforts led by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) over the last two years in Michigan have put the state’s ability to properly manage its natural resources at risk.

Thankfully, those from Michigan’s sportsmen’s community and the Michigan Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus have joined forces to combat HSUS’s objective of stripping the Natural Resource Commission’s (NRC) authority to manage wildlife based on scientific principles.

These sportsmen efforts translated into nearly 300,000 certified signatures in support of enacting the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act (SFWCA).

This citizen-initiated law will safeguard the NRC’s authority to manage Michigan’s fish and wildlife using the best available science.

On August 13 2014, the Michigan Senate demonstrated its commitment to conservation by voting in favor of the  Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. The decision now goes to the House of Representatives, whose approval would codify the SFWCA without the need for the governor’s signature.

Lack of approval would send the  Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act  to the November ballot for popular vote where the emotionally charged and ill-informed campaigns of HSUS could sway voters from making the best decision for Michigan’s wildlife resources.

It is imperative that representatives hear from constituents who support professional fish and wildlife management and are encouraged to vote in favor of the SFWCA on August 27. Opponents will be working hard to sway legislators, so it is up to the sportsmen’s community to surpass their efforts in these final two days. At nearly two million strong, the voices of Michigan’s hunters and anglers cannot be ignored.

Please contact members of the Michigan House of Representatives today and urge them to support the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act!

    1. The HSUS is based in Washington DC. It boggles the mind how HSUS, a animal shelter essentially, has enough cash to go after hunters in states where they don’t even live. They HSUS are going after not only Michigan, but Maine bear hunting as well. Its despicable. You know I joined NDA because I love deer. I’m also a spotter of DU, NWTF, and Pheasants Forever, but as we see a blending of left wingers, antis, commies, socialists, and ideologists forming one big conglomerate to damn hunting, I suggest we do the same. I think NDA should join ranks with the NRA and all hunting and shooting organizations, as well as, all fishing organizations. We as outdoor enthusiasts, fishermen/women, hunters, and campers should form our own super PAC if u will to have money to fight off these but jobs, to purchase land open to public that isn’t succeptable to sequestration or political parties, to conserve land, to fight for access for our outdoor brethren. That is my take because we as outdoor enthusiasts are divided into little subsections or niche’s and we fight only for our cause of elk, ducks, wetlands, deer, etc… When the reality of the situation is we need to unite all of us together and fight for/support one another’s cause because e left/idealists/socialists/antis want to make us gun owners/ hunters/ fishers/ trappers ashamed of the very traditions we hold dear.

    2. HSUS used to be about saving animals, dogs & cats. It has been taken over by radical animal rights extremists. They continue to hide behind their old persona in hopes of tricking people into supporting them.
