Manasquan, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- Ebola has been all over the news the past few weeks.

The Ebola virus is spreading and no one in any position of authority is releasing information to the public about how serious of a contagion this is.

It was just a few weeks ago that the CDC and mainstream media claimed it wouldn’t make it to U.S. shores, but as of last week, reports are flowing in from all over the country from hospitals that have admitted patients who recently traveled to Africa and are showing possible symptoms of the deadly virus.

The deadly Ebola epidemic ravaging parts of West Africa was declared an international health emergency by the World Health Organisation on last Friday, as the death toll neared 1000 and authorities expressed fears the virus could spread worldwide.

Dr Margaret Chan, WHO director-general appealed for global help to combat the regional epidemic, which she said was “the largest, most severe and most complex outbreak in the nearly four-decade history of this disease”.

A coordinated response was essential to stop the international spread of the disease, the organisation said in a statement after a two-day emergency meeting.

“The outbreak is moving faster than we can control it,” Dr Chan said, noting that the countries affected – mostly deeply impoverished and with only basic healthcare infrastructures – could not cope with the virus on their own.

Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever is a horrible, deadly viral infection that is easily spread through both direct and indirect contact with all bodily fluids or in the words of the Centers for Disease Control “secretions.”

What they fail to tell you is Ebola is spread through ALL  secretions, including sweat, saliva, urine and mucus, and that a victim can get the disease by contacting an object an infected person has touched. Even the dead victims of the virus can still spread the deadly disease through leaking bodily fluids. As of yet it has not yet mutated, but the possibility exists that the virus could mutate to an air borne version that would prove especially deadly for humans.

Here is my short list of Ebola Survival Gear  I recommend you stock up on right now for a potential U.S. outbreak:

A Personal Pandemic Flu Kit: Like the QuakeKare Deluxe Pandemic Flu Kit ( http://tiny.cc/wgxakx ) . This is a good starter Home Survival Kit containing the most basic and effective supplies for protection of one (1) person from the spread of a pandemic flu. Recommended by the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and World Health Organization to prevent a pandemic flu virus . You will need one kit for each person you care about. Note the included suit is designed for small adults and children if you are a fat guy like me see my next item on the list.

Multiple Tyvek Suits: As mentioned above some generic tyvek suits are one size fits all and they do not fit buff (read fat) guys like me. Since you are going to need more than one suit to make it through a real world pandemic you might as well get them in a size that fits. White Haz-Mat Suits ( http://tiny.cc/2mdjkx ) are readily available in sizes up to 4X-large and can be ordered in bulk to get the price down to $5.00 or so a suit. If you want to be really prepared you can also sprinkle in a dozen or so Camo Tyvek Coveralls ( http://tiny.cc/y99ikx ) in case you need to bug out on the down low rather than stand out as a big white target. FYI: Do not forget the Duct Tape ( http://tiny.cc/cydjkx ) , useful for sealing up cuffs and ankles as well as sterile safe rooms.

N95 Particulate Respirators: Respirators are a no brainer. They are easy to use, easy to store, cheap and can easily save your life. The last time SARS broke out, you could not find these anywhere, prepare today and be ready tomorrow.

3M makes the best N-96 mask on the market. This product meets CDC guidelines for Mycobacterium tuberculosis exposure control. As a respirator, it is intended to reduce wearer exposure to certain airborne particles including those generated by electrocautery, laser surgery, and other powered medical instruments. As a surgical mask, it is designed to be fluid resistant to splash and spatter of blood and other infectious materials; when worn properly and in combination with protective eyewear, it complies with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. It also provides >99% BFE against wearer generated micor-organisms.

Note: Respirators seem to come in three (3) sizes, Child, Adult Small and Standard. N95 Particulate Respirator ( http://tiny.cc/2jejkx )

Nitrile Gloves: Chemical and Bio resistant gloves are our first line of defense, lets face it your hands are in everything. Nitrile glove are latex free for those who may be allergic. As well as tough and abrasion resistant not to mention cheap. Once again buy sizes that fit your family unit. Raven Powder-Free Disposable Black Nitrile 6 Mil Gloves ( http://tiny.cc/6dgjkx ) and being colored black helps with other night time tasks as they arrive.

Good Old Basic Bleach: Yup, bleach! It kills on contact and can help sterilize everything from guns to water. I particularly like the concentrated bleach tabs as the they weigh a fraction of the weight of liquid bleach and fit in a go bag when on the move. Evolve Original Scent Ultra Concentrated Bleach Tablets ( http://tiny.cc/uvgjkx )

As I said at the start this is just my short list of the most basic things you will need to survive a Ebola style outbreak. As with all survival situations you can never be completely prepared, but it pays to plan ahead and stock up now as the above listed survival  items will be the first to go when the SHTF.

    1. Allowing the infected is the dumbest thing our government has done this year. Keep the disease contained to the infected area.Sorry I disagree with media that thinks that people have a right to return after they got infected for whatever reason they had. They don’t have any right to start a pandemic . Ebola being so bad , and transmission rate seems to be so high , contaiment to a quarantine area is the only way to stop it.
The government seemed to be too willing to allow ebola to return to the U.S.
I don’t get what the Obama agenda could be allowing a pandemic capable disease to be brought to U.S. soil. Is Obama’s agenda to cause a world pandemic and move forward with a socialist government with no rights or freedoms , similar to Bruce Willis in The Seige.

    2. This is a solid list, but what is lacking is most critical aspect:
What is the trigger or decision point to start using the equipment?
What is the trigger or decision point to stop using the equipment?
      What are the criteria?

Having the best equipment in the world will fail just as easily as having none. Knowing what to look for and the criteria for acting are as critical as being equipment/tool prepared?

Will you risk public scrutiny and ridicule for when you start implementing your protective measures? How will you deal with it?

These are the factors are usually missing from such articles which, in my opinion, are as, if not more important.

      Respectfully,
      Prepared with implementation/execution criteria
