Fort Valley, GA -( Migratory bird season is rapidly approaching – are you confident in your shooting skills on quick-moving targets?

If you are looking for a little coaching, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division has a great 4-day workshop, “Improving Wing Shooting Proficiency,” scheduled at Camp John Hope in Fort Valley during September.

“This workshop, scheduled to take place on four days during a four-week period, is offering instruction on how to advance shotgunning activities and practices to provide participants the opportunity to improve their ability to hit a moving target with a shotgun,” said Mark Swords, Hunting and Shooting Education Specialist and workshop organizer.

This new workshop is being offered as the first of a potential new series of educational workshops that revolve around topics related to shooting sports and hunter education. Each workshop will list age and ability requirements and all workshops will be conducted by DNR hunter education staff or trained hunter education volunteers.

“Improving Wing Shooting Proficiency” will take place on Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24. The registration fee is only $12 for the four classes, and includes a banquet meal following the final class; additional banquet tickets available for purchase. All classes will take place at Camp John Hope.

The four-part shooting series includes live-fire exercises and classroom instruction. Topics covered include: range safety and procedures, proper gun fit, hitting the right-to-left crossing target (and left-to-right), hitting the quartering target and more.

Pre-registration is required and participation is limited to only 10 people. Youth and adults can register. Youth must be able to exhibit knowledge of and the ability to operate a firearm safely. Personal firearms and shooting equipment are welcome (pending instructor inspection). However, some loaner equipment also will be available.
