You Do NOT Have a ‘Right’ To Happiness, Only to Pursue It

Ft Collins, CO –-(Ammoland.com)- A relative recently said to me:

You may think you have the right to own guns, but I have the right to walk in the park and not be shot.”

My response was a searing:

“No, you don’t!

“You don’t have a ‘right‘ to have nothing bad ever happen to you. No such ‘right‘ is enumerated anywhere in the Constitution, nor would it be possible for any such ‘right,’ even when cynically promised by criminal politicians, to be enforced.”

There is no free lunch! Our Constitution declines to guarantee outcomes. Neither this Nation, nor this planet, owes you anything. You have no ‘right‘ to a risk-free life!

As for police, it represents enormous conceit to believe we do anything about crime, other than displace it!

I feed bad about victims of crime, just like everyone else. Indeed, I also feel bad about floods, earthquakes, fires, accidents, sickness, and poor personal decisions. But, I don’t feel bad enough to forever surrender my individual freedom and liberty, on behalf of myself and my children, voluntarily entering into slavery, and donning chains, in a despicable, and meaningless, effort to prevent ‘crime’

There are things far worse than ‘crime!’

We all pay a price for living in a free country. You get to make your own decisions. You get to endure the consequences. Either way, ‘luck‘ is completely indifferent. And, either way, nobody cares, nor should they.

And in the end, bacteria win anyway!

Where did you think you were, Disneyland?”

“The Constitution only gives people the right to ‘pursue’ happiness. You have to catch it yourself!” ~ Benjamin Franklin

Rights are things that are inalienable and that have a GOD given position. Sure we can disagree with them but that doesn’t change the right. The list of “rights” that our forefathers constructed although not absolutely exclusive is pretty darned close. An example is currently we have for the past 6 years tried to create another “right” to the list. It hasn’t been stated as such but nevertheless it has been treated as a possible “right” and that is the right to have healthcare. Adding rights to the list of rights that the Amendments gave us comes with extreme when… Read more »

Franklin never said that (just because you find it on the internet doesn’t make it so). This runs completely counter to the founding fathers’ belief that rights are natural, and unalienable, and not ‘granted’ by government.

Besides, the expression “pursuit of happiness” is from the Declaration of Independence.

I have been argues with by antigunners, that my owning a gun interfered with their happiness, so I was wrong. When I try to educate them about what rights mean to me, they get really quiet, except to call me names and become verbally abusive. They don’t seem to mind that. O f course that was in California before I became an escapee from the People’s Republic.

I always tell people; “I’m a nice guy who would do anything in the world for anyone…until, I don’t have to be. Then, I can be a real A** hole!”

not sure what walking in the park with relative hopes of not being shot has to do with 2nd ammendment or what being forced to inhale someone elses burning carcinogen has to do with it either..chances are if you are shot in the park, it would be by a person with criminal intent and the smoking issue is not that a smoker has to hide, they just have to go some place else than around people who choose to not inhale that poison along with them…

Chuck

Don’t kid yourself. If you do not pursue and defend your rights, they will be taken away. We ever thought, 40 yrs. ago, that now anyone who smoked would have to hide to do it. They said it could never happen as it had in Western Europe but it did. Amendments are supposed to be rock solid things that stay that way but not in the era and time. We have to fight the same fight beginning everyday. A law to our benefit only means it is a law until we look the other way.
