Gun Owners Praise ‘After You Shoot – Your Gun’s Hot. The Perp’s Not’

Expert’s book raises dangerous issues. Shooting crooks can be worse for you than them.

PHOENIX, AZ –-(Ammoland.com)- When After You Shoot (tiny.cc/wgrk7w ) was first released there was nothing else like it. The subtitle told the story: “Your gun’s hot, the perp’s not, now what?”

Sure, lawyers were pretty uniform in their advice: “Don’t say anything!” But it dawned on author Alan Korwin, who had written eight other books on the subject—that simply didn’t work.

“Everyone says something,” he notes, “and most everyone calls 911. The first thing most people do is give up the right to remain silent. They spill their adrenaline-loaded guts into a police tape recorder!”

It took Korwin, a nationally recognized expert on gun law, nearly 20 years to connect all the dots no one else had. First, almost no one remains silent, and second, everyone blabs without their right to have a lawyer present. They end up practically convicting themselves, even in a perfectly clean shoot. They’re in no condition to make reasonable statements, and police egg them on. He put what he learned into After You Shoot ( tiny.cc/wgrk7w ) , it sold out almost immediately, and is now in reprint.

More than 70 experts contributed to the work —judges, prosecutors, criminal-defense attorneys, trainers, people who suffered through the process, cops— and it shows. One of the outcomes is a draft bill to help protect people who call for help so they don’t get the dial-911-and-fry result. It also suggests five things you can do after a self-defense shooting so you don’t end up in more trouble than the criminal.

One reader wrote: “What an excellent read! Well done! You wrote it as if it were about me in so many ways from my actual bad experience with the police and it’s as if you read my mind and knew all of what happened word for word! You tell it exactly like it is about the cops and self-defense consequences. I found out the hard way back in 1986 when I used a revolver to defend myself… and went to jail for it while the perp walked away scot free.”

Comments like this were common: “Your book was thought provoking and has significantly advanced my thinking regarding these issues.”

Another writes: “The book contains some great advice and made me think about a few responsibilities I have as an armed citizen (CCW Ohio). Truthfully, I hadn’t given thought to the 911 scenarios.”

Gun owners can’t afford to leave these issues unexamined. One day you may have to shoot, and be prepared for what happens, after you shoot.

Although it was a good read, I felt as though the Author was using the reader as the “Guinea Pig” to see how his theories on how the laws on self defense shootings should work. Most of his ideas or nothing more than conjecture of how things may – or should – play out. The Author is not a lawyer, but but talks about the legality of laws involving self defense shootings. At best this book is about the Theory of what should be done after a self defense shooting. As always, just my opinion… Stay Safe and Carry Responsibly

Great book, it makes you think through to after the fact. Learn what the police do to protect their own that have to shoot a perp – and do not want you to do to protect yourself.

After the 911 call (assuming you make it) say nothing unless its to your lawyer only !
