Would you Provide Security to a Disarmenter who Mocked You?

Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- A poster at opencarry.org, Southern Covenanter, recounts an ironic experience in Charlotte, North Carolina.

From opencarry.org:

I made it a point to stop and meet my parents for lunch in Pineville while I was passing through town, and after I left, I stopped at the QT on Woodlawn Road (right off I-77 where Woodlawn turns into Billy Graham Parkway) to gas up the Blue Bullet. This QT is in a somewhat sketchy part of town, so I was already on high alert when I pulled up to the pump. About the time I got the Bullet in park, I noticed three young men walking through the islands towards the store. One of the three was a younger white guy (about 6’1″, 175 lbs, and all tatted up) was shirtless, loud, high as a Georgia pine, and clearly acting aggressively. I took note of him, and strolled inside to pre-pay for my gas. Lo and behold, when I got inside, some yuppie soccer Mom type wear a “Moms Demand Action” t-shirt spotted me and the sidearm on my hip and immediately started ranting about how I was dangerous and scary, that my big, bad SigSauer made her nervous, how did she know I wasn’t going to shoot everybody in the joint, etc. I did my best to ignore her, hit the latrine, and came back out and paid for my gas.

While I was walking to the door, I noticed the doped up potential troublemaker was waving his arms around, beating on his chest and flinching at people like he was going to throw a punch while yelling, “I’ma f* you up! Y’all don’t want none!” and so on.

I walked out the door to head to the car, and when I did, the Mom’s Demand nutjob approached from my right and quietly asked, “Would you walk me to my car?”

My response: “I’m sure that loud mouth of yours will keep you safe.”

The shocked look on her face was completely worth it.

OC: 1. Moms Demand: 0.

The poster then goes on to explain that he briefly considered acceding to the request, but having information that the the local chief LEO was anti-open carry, and concerned that the clerk might misunderstand a “walk to the car” because of the previous rant by the woman, he decided against it.

Another poster mentioned that Moms Demand Action supporters have encouraged others to make, and have said that they would make, false 911 calls.

My instinct would have been to walk her to the car. People with phobias can overcome them with experience. However, I can easily understand his reluctance in the circumstances.

I am a woman, and I think he did the right thing. Let her a little fear, and maybe it will sink in why the 2nd amendment is important to some of us. She has expressed her view loudly and rudely, and he did watch her while she walked to her car. If they preach it, they should live it. She went in to her rant without knowing anything about he, and simply to embarrass him. He really didn’t owe her anything, and she preaches call a cop, so why didn’t she? Anyone carrying is at least obvious about it.… Read more »

I see the “Moms Demand Action ” trolls are out in force poo-poohing this article in a high dudgeon. If you really want to read high fiction then stick with the HuffPo or the Daily Beast with their phony stories !!

I wouldn’t have walked her to her car after her tirade. She could have asked one of those fine young gentlemen to walk her to her car since she obviously holds them in higher esteem. Had she just been a lady in the store that was afraid to walk to care unassisted, then I would have gladly done so. Those that have attempted to take away my rights, after having freely given up their own, will never find any protection offered by me in any shape, form or fashion…

If this really happened, I think we missed out on a perfectly good opportunity to do the right thing and illustrate the point as to why people should carry firearms. Just because the woman had been a total idiot inside the store is no reason to allow her to feel vulnerable in the face of the punk outside. Maybe it’s just a generational thing, but the gentlemanly thing to do would have been to provide some comfort by escorting her, regardless of her earlier actions. Would the guy have stood by and watched if the punk approached or attacked this… Read more »

Nope. No way I would have helped her. Let her live (and die) by her beliefs.

LazyReader

I pity the fool, who doesn’t by my gas.

I think I’d have called the local (anti-gun) cops for her and asked if they wanted me to escort her to her car. They would have almost certainly have to had to say “No,” as a matter of legal policy, and then I could have told her, “Well Ma’am, I’d like to help you out, but since you and your MDA group distrust guys like me, and have been known to misrepresent situations like this one, I thought I’d better call the cops to see what they want me to do. They said you should just wait for them to… Read more »

The answer to that question depends on whether she was ‘attractive’ or not.

I would have suggested that she see if the shirtless wonder would help her or if Mayor Bloomberg or a member of Moms could give her assistance. If you took her to her car and something happened where you had to use your firearm, do you think she would speak up for you in court? I highly doubt it. She would leave you out to dry like yesterday’s laundry.

durabo

Good response. More of them need to be frightened by hoodlums.

DrSique

Protecting someone who would gladly deny you your right to defend your family certainly is a moral dilemma. I suppose that it is a personal choice and, as this author implies, dependant on the actual immediate circumstances, i.e. does it present undue risk to ones own safety. Sounds to me that her open attack on his rights was a huge deciding factor over, say, someone who just wore the MDA shirt and he knew that Officer Opie was anti-2A. Good call to walk away.

Had a situation in a WalMart several months ago. While waiting at the automotive counter to buy some ammo (no one in sporting goods), a woman next to me remarked about the 60 rounds of .45 ACP I was buying: “so, you going to SHOOT 60 people, right?”. I asked her what in the Wide World of Sports she was talking about. She informed me that she worked in a WalMart pharmacy, and “we have to log all the drugs, and over-the-counter antihistamines”. I asked her why that was, and then explained to her that people use pseudophederine to cook… Read more »

Way to go, Sarge.

Kudoes to the man for his response to the woman ! If you are not going to stand up for my 2nd amendement rights the you are on your own! Don’t ,DON’t ask me to protect you !

Joe

I think I would have walked with her towards her vehicle, or at least told her I’ll watch to see she makes it safely. I would not have felt right about myself if something would have happened to this person that I had the chance to prevent. I know it sounds trite, but a rain storm developes with a single drop. So helping this person may have led to better things. Trying to do the right thing IMHO, is correct, even if they had just pissed me off. Always try to be polite and act like a gentleman. Maybe that’s… Read more »

My response would have been, “Lady, YO-YO, call a cop.” For some who might not know…Yo-Yo…You’re On Your Own. Maybe I might have said, AMFYO-YO…let you figure it out, but the first word is “Adios”…;)

Got to love anti gun tourists in Alaska who dont realize the 454 casull goes with the tackle box , they go fishing and say omg thats a big brown bear run to me in fear , ask me to shoot the bear. Have not had to shoot a bear for defense of life yet. Then chuckle because its a 2-3 year old bear. But the biggest threat is the punks that just robbed your vehicle while you were fishing or hiking.

JFW

I’m inclined to agree with bob, seems like fiction. However, if it was real, I’d have gladly accepted the request. In general, the better attitude and behavior you have while open carrying, the better people will perceive gun owners to be. It would behoove us all to act like total boyscouts while we’re out representing the second amendment. Bad attitudes don’t garner favor in general.

TEX

There is no way I would had walked the loud mouth to her car. The mad mommas are programmed to act like she did by Shannon Watts. However,I would had stuck around and watched until she left to make sure she was OK !

JohntheDeerking

What a complicated issue. I hesitate to discuss morals or ethics, since mine are so situationally flexible, But I think you did the right thing, Mr Wienberg.

Kimberwarrior45

The police experience the same thing all the time, people hate and rant at them then will call for the police to help them when they feel they may be in danger

bob

I could be mistaken, and if so I’m being a jerk. But to me, in my humble, fallible opinion, this smells of fiction.

Hipshot Percussion

Same here Bob… right with you. It does have that distinctive aroma. But on the off chance that it is true… I would have walked her to her car. I’m a Gentleman, no matter the circumstances.

Stay Safe and Carry Responsibly

Vincent Barbour

I would have explained to her that after her triad the clerk would not think she was walking with me willingly and as her group has directed folks to call 911 at the sight of a exposed weapon, the clerk might well do that. With the Sheriff here being anti-open carry, his deputies also might push his agenda and make an example of me. I don’t need the hassle Ma’am, so I won’t walk you to your car. But, since I carry to be able to protect myself and the innocent, I will stay here and watch you to be… Read more »

I call BS.

It is always advantageous to be the better man. I would have taken the opportunity during the walk to bring some light to her narrow way of thinking.

I’m a gentleman, too, from the South. I even open doors for ladies, hold my wife’s hand, make sure she’s not on the street-side when we walk, etc. If this story were true, which I have doubts about, I would hesitate to escort this lady to her car simply because of her obnoxious manner, as well as the fact that some of these dippy females would call 911 to get you in trouble. So, even though I am a Southern Gentleman, this mouthy woma (I hesitate to call her a “lady”, would just have to take her chances, although I… Read more »
