BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is encouraging its members to contact their U.S. senators and congressional representatives in support of Sen. John Cornyn’s Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2015.

“We think that Sen. Cornyn’s proposal is long overdue, now that all 50 states have adopted some form of concealed carry legislation,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Law-abiding citizens can drive their cars across the country on their state-issued driver’s licenses, and it’s time that states acknowledge that the right to keep and bear arms is not confined to one’s home state.

“After all,” he added, “the right to defend one’s self doesn’t end at the state line.”

Gottlieb noted that perennial anti-gun Sen. Charles Schumer of New York has already decried the bill, S. 498, as “a menace to New York.” He called it another example of Schumer’s campaign of paranoia to push gun control.

“Senator Schumer didn’t waste any time finding a microphone to unleash his scare tactics,” Gottlieb observed. “He immediately threatened to fight this legislation ‘tooth-and-nail,’ so it is no surprise that he rolled out the rhetoric almost before Cornyn had finished with his announcement.

“It’s kind of disingenuous for Chuck Schumer to start whining about ‘potentially dangerous people’ bringing guns into New York grocery stores, theaters and other venues without notifying the police,” he added. “New York criminals have been doing that for years, and he knows it. Perish the thought that a legally-armed private citizen from anywhere might just want to be on a level playing field with Empire State street hoodlums.”

Republican Sen. Cornyn has bipartisan support for his measure, including Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin, and there’s an identical companion bill in the House, HR 923, sponsored by Rep. Marlin Stutzman of Indiana.

“Gun prohibitionists like Schumer have contended for years we ought to treat gun ownership like car ownership,” Gottlieb stated. “Well, here’s a chance for Schumer to put up or shut up and support legislation to recognize concealed carry as a national right.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. The Citizens Committee can be reached by phone at (425) 454-4911, on the Internet at www.ccrkba.org or by email to [email protected].

Te current salad of various state laws is a mess. I live in VT where Open and Concealed carry are legal to anyone that is not forbidden to own a weapon. My lady friend lives in CT where you can’t even own a weapon in your home without a special permit. Since I’m in CT a lot, I had to buy a permit to purchase ammo or “legal” magazines from some of the larger stores there. Here, I can walk out of my LGS with a nice new 1911 holstered to my side with a few boxes of ammo. If… Read more »

DaveV, best post ever! Folks, he’s absolutely correct….get the law on the books…I’d rather fight from an elevated position than have to keep fight uphill against the draconian laws of about 10 of our 50 States. 2016 could see another power shift in the Senate….if we don’t get national reciprocity now, we may not see it in our generation.

All you folks who want to quote 1800’s law or cry “Beware the Fed. Govt.” etc can continue down this road till the next century and have us remain exactly where we are today OR we can back Natl. Reciprocity which simply says all states MUST recognize another state’s permit, period. Stop with the conspiracy theories and rhetoric that simply aid people like Schumer and Bloomberg in not getting it passed and let’s unify. If we don’t you’ll still be crying the same blues in 50 years.

shall not be infringed is a right, a license is a privilege, Cornyn is a Chameleon, he’s not to be trusted, extreme caution in how his bill will be worded…

Concealed carry is of no use to me, I don’t carry a purse. Besides, Open Carry is the right guaranteed by the Constitution, concealed carry can be banned. https://CaliforniaRightToCarry.org “In Nunn v. State, 1 Ga. 243, 251 (1846), the Georgia Supreme Court construed the Second Amendment as protecting the “natural right of self-defence” and therefore struck down a ban on carrying pistols openly. Its opinion perfectly captured the way in which the operative clause of the Second Amendment furthers the purpose announced in the prefatory clause, in continuity with the English right…Likewise, in State v. Chandler, 5 La. Ann. 489,… Read more »
